Buzzerbeater from Ryan steals the game against Serbia!(31589)In the final game of season 29, Australian u20 team has won a thrilling scrimmage match against 3rd ranked Serbia.
Cortez "Groves" Ryan
(32953330) did his chances of selection no harm by catching the coaches attention with a game winning catch and shoot inside the key. With only 3 seconds to inbound a made free throw by his direct opponent , Ryan did what Cortez Groves did best, ran! It was a bit of a brain fart by the Serbian PG Nenadovic, who did not come up and play defense on his man in the back court, allowing the ball to dribble along the floor from the inbounds pass without the clock starting. The ball was eventually picked up at the halfway line, and a quick skip pass from Maverick found the open Groves for a game winning shot.
"We almost didnt suit him up" the team coach explained in the post match conference. "His fitness was a little suss coming out of a semi final in div 3 with local club
The Dark Passenger". We had several discussions with Jacki Chans
(32954032) management to get him cleared to play, but the team could not come to a salary agreement with his management. The team hopes this will happen prior to the commencement of the season 30 campaign, as Jacki has lightning quick reflexes, possess some incredible skills and is a real fighter.
Australia led for most of the 1st quarter before trailing by 2 at the half. The 3rd quarter was where Australia did all the damage, with a 27-19 quarter before Vodafone Pete
(32953825) (nicknamed appropriately due to him lacking range) went down with an itchy foot. The foot got so itchy, he took his shoe off during a free throw stoppage. The coach, totally unimpressed, dragged him immediately and he was demoted to the end of the bench for the remainder of the match. The team was already behind the 8-ball with Artemis Zidarevic
(32955775) (nicknames, please), and Freddy de Moraes
(32954182) both playing overseas for their respective clubs, fell to injury. Both teams were fortunate enough to go on to promote in their finals despite the Australian talent lost in their lineups. Well done.
With selection not far away, it is important for teams to be aware of the effects of gameshape on players performance, and understanding what training plan will be best for both the team of origin, and the u21 team. In particular, there are a few players with potential limiting primary training. Be sure to contact the u21 management to establish a training plan best for the players development.
U21 management elections begin this week for season 30, make sure everyone gets involved and have your say in the election process!
