Pilipinas U21 vs Lubnan U21 Game Link

Pilipinas U21 blows out Lubnan with a 59 point victory (38998)

Siegfred Estillore (38155755) leads the team with 17 points in 10 shots to overcome 26 points from Lubnan SF Abdullah Hamdan Abdullat. Utek Gutierrez (38155386) stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals to join 5 other players in double figures.

Pilipinas U21 burst right out of the gates with a 6-0 run, but Lubnan fought hard in the rebounding department, generating multiple chances per possession. However, they were unable to convert as Pilipinas extended the lead to 33-10. Carl Elbert Durano (38155281) provided another strong showing in the first quarter with 11 points. Scoring became an issue in the second quarter as both teams focused on defense. Durano tried to spark a run with a powerful dunk, but he got into foul trouble in the next possession. Lubnan managed to get the score close in the second quarter, allowing Pilipinas to extend the lead by one point in 7 minutes. Pilipinas finally managed a breakthrough with their bench as they ended the half with a 15-2 run. Pilipinas seems to cruise to a victory, but Lubnan made a run early in the third quarter, cutting the lead by one at some point. All hopes for a comeback however were crushed when Lubnan point guard Sulaiman Alam Hattar was injured by Boanerjes Mabilangan (39148769) with 2:54 left in the third. Lubnan SG El-Qasem repaid the favor with a flagrant foul early in the 4th quarter, but it made no difference as Estillore scored 11 in the period to secure the win.

We will take on Nippon U21 (Japan) next week, Monday October 10, 4PM. On paper, we have the advantage due to salaries and home court. However, we expect it to be a difficult game as Nippon must win this one to stay in contention.

Quarter 1: The first quarter provided us with the battle of the guards with Estillore and Gutierrez scoing 22, while Nippon's guards Jeon and Ezaki scoring 18. At the end of the first, Pilipinas U21 leads 39-26.

Quarter 2: The shooting guards of both teams continued their duel. Gutierrez leads Pilipinas with 23 while Jeon scores 14. Pilipinas U21 extends their lead by 10, the quarter ends 63-40.

Quarter 3: Pilipinas started the quarter with a 19-6 run, but Nippon came back with a 10-4 run of their own. Pilipinas gets a 30 point lead 86-56.

Pilipinas U21 takes their 4th win with a 28 victory over Nippon U21 (39000)

Utek Gutierrez (38155386) leads the team with 28 points and 6 assists while Ace Julio Madrigal (38155771) provided a double-double tallying 21 points and 11 rebounds. Carlos Miguel Octaviano (38155686) contributed 17 points off the bench with a perfect 8/8 shooting. The scoring leader for Nippon is their SG Jae-Suk Jeon with 26 points

Gutierrez got it going early in the first with 3 straight buckets after missing his first two shots. On the other hand, Jeon counters with 6 points of his own. Madrigal tried to control the game with 3 offensive rebounds leading to 6 second chance points, but Jeon and Nippon PG Chihiro Ezaki tried to keep the game close with 18 points in the first. However, they received little help as Pilipinas leads 39-26 at the end of the first quarter. Gutierrez leads the team with 13 while Siegfred Estillore (38155755) added 9. Madrigal opened the second quarter by displaying his offensive repertoire, scoring the first 7 points of Pilipinas U21. However, both teams found it difficult to score as the quarter went on until Gutierrez and Jeon finally had a scoring duel in the last few minutes. Gutierrez ended up with 23 while Jeon finished with 14 as Pilipinas extends the lead 63-40. Pilipinas started the third quarter with a 19-6 run as Jeon was finally limited to 3 points for most of the period. Jeon and Nippon C Gotaro Tsuboi countered with a 10-4 run to end the third quarter with a respectable score 23-16. As the bench of Pilipinas was cleared early in the 4th, Nippon PF Toyoshima quickly hit a baseline jumper to continue their run from the 3rd quarter, prompting a full timeout from Pilipinas. Luckily, Octaviano shouldered the scoring load with 9 points 3 minutes into the quarter to quell any doubts on the result of the game.

Our next opponent will be Hangkuk U21 (South Korea). The said game will be held next Monday, October 17, 4 PM.
