What data could be shared? "Ooh! I've got a 5" "Shucks. I got another 3 this week." "At least it wasn't a 1 like I had the week before. That was depressing"

Since the identifying numbers are randomized independently for each team, there is no way to really share information.

Or if there is a way to share information, then it could occur in the two weeks before the draft when the scouting information is revealed as easily as it would be if you slowly got more information during the season.

Without really thinking deeply about it, revealing info in chunks can allow for collusion where the same info about a player could be released to both teams, and they could confirm that's the same player, and then when further, but different info is released about that player, they can share it.

If it's all released at once, this wont occur.

There are 48 players, and 2 pieces of information about each for a total of 96 pieces of information. You can at most scout 4 players per week. Over 14 weeks that is 56 pieces of information. It is quite unlikely that you will know the star rating of all 48 players, and more likely that you would know about star ratings of perhaps 35 players and additional information about 21 of those, and nothing about 13 players. It would not be likely that any owner would know the star rating of all 48 players. And if his friend had been max scouting, he will already have put in $40K per week for most of the season before he could stop. If you hadn't been maxed out, it is unlikely that you uncoverd the only two "5" in the draft.

And it is dubious that there is a big difference in talent between the players of each league. So probably about 1/5 of the players for each league have each star rating. That might even be enforced. So in effect a "5" means that a player is among the top 1/5 of players in the pool, and so even f you your league has a weak pool, some mediocre players are going to be "5".

If there is a problem with too much information, then increase the number of players in the draft pool (say to 60). And reduce the amount of information that may be gathered. For example, only allow scouting at the start of the season, so that there would only be 11 weeks of scouting. Then at most, a team could know 44/120 pieces of information.

There are two pieces of information about each player.

A star rating and a grade plus best stat (which often appears to be FT).

Let's say that the way that scouting works is that a 48-sided dice is rolled, which selects a player that you scouted. His real identity is not shown to you, and he is simply identified as Player 1, along with his star rating. Even if I hit the same player a few weeks later, I'll know him as player 7 or something. If he has a star rating of 5 we won't know that he is the same player. And let's say that you get lucky and scout him again and know he A+ in some skill, I still won't know that he is the same player. And maybe I'll scout him a second time, and find out that he is also an A+ in the same skill. What will that tell is that can be put to our advantage?

But there is also a big downside, these times I don't know whteher I have scouted some good players or only bad players (1s...) and I'd like to adjust my scouting to that. So f.ex. If I see the draft aproaching and I only have awful players than I'd choose to scout 4 players instead of one...

quick example (and it is even without help from other teams in the same legue!!)

let's say you spend 10k on scouting each week, so you get 2 players' info every week.
After 5 weeks, you had the luck of 'seeing' six 5 and two 4 rated players. You could cut your scouting to 0 for the rest of the season, since if you think about it, you will have found 'most' of the 5 ranked players, and a few 4s for back-up.
Other players are less fortunate and always get the 3 and 2 rated players, and if the want any chance on a big guy they need to keep spending...

Once the info is shown, there is plenty of time to select the players you want to draft, for the managers who are so concerned about keeping track, I'm sure they will keep track in their own way. Pacience is a good virtue... ;) Somethimes if you need to wait for something, it all the more fun once you get it.
