I would never confront a team with it, if it is suspicious I report them, it is up to the GMs and BBs to find out if he truly is cheating.
We have not the needed tools by far in order to find out...
Confronting them alarms them and maybe they will find ways to prevent GMs or BBs from finding out if they look for anything after you 'warned'the cheater...

I also won't need to know if the ones I report are sanctioned or not, I don't want to know actually. I don't want to be tempted into whining that I still think he is a cheater after GM or BB investigated and found him not guilty. ;)

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.

yeah the confrontation was more out of annoyance and frustration....

but with the limited tools we have if we can sniff them out then a warning for the team in question to come up with an elaborate excuse shouldnt be enough to save them...

you yourself are a trader or have been and i would suspect we think along the same lines when we see peoples transfer history / teams sold to and on the TL itself when you are considering making a bid you know what looks right versus what looks fishy....

when you are gazumped by a team who has blatantly accumalated the money in a dubious fashion then you will feel them same when you see that player on their roster and their Transfer history continuing without any real reprucussion...

indeed.
And once in a while I still try to trade, but find it rather hard lately. So I don't try it that often anymore. At this time I try to get my number of players down!
Once I succesfully sell some more players (most of which I'm training now to be able to make profit out of them) I will buy some new ones.

Most cheaters will indeed have no way back once they are reported, but there might be some carefull teams out there that might only get busted if they are caught unaware. But to start with those will be very hard for us to spot as well.

So far I never had a feeling like: I realy need THAT player now, it's always like: well, he's getting to high, another one like him will pass by soon. If you notice the one outbidding you is probably a cheater, report him and chances are good he won't ever bid against anyone anymore... no need to put any more effort into them. that's my way...

well then we only differ on the amount of players we have on our rosters..as if i had your amount of players yes i wouldnt be that bothered about missing out here and there

i keep a very small squad as i dont see any reason to have 13-15 players...i often play my 2 league games and then find myself with only 2-3 players to field for the scrimmage... so i oftern look to pick up 1-2 people (when financially viable) to include in scrimmage and step trade if i still have a training space available...

for a lot of teams now also their arent many players per week that can actually improve your team on the TL so when 1 does come by and you are outbid by a cheater then thats your week gone...(this week i estimate only 4-5 players wouldve walked into my side outside the C position)

also with the draft picks arriving soon (regardless of the av. quality) this will boost rosters and flood market with more potential signings...

true,

however I also have many players that I can't sell since they aren't good enough, but they preform prety good when you field them.
If you look for players to play in your scrimmages, to train them up a bit and resell them, it should not be too hard to find some for 1000 dollars...

If you only want ones better than you already have, yes it could be harder. And they would cost fortunes.

I should fire some which won't sell, but they won me matches when I started out, and I can't do it...
so rather I try to improve them at some skill and then try to sell them anyway.

its funny as i normally prefer to confront teams to see if they are genuine before reporting them....

Please do not do this.

Let the GMs and BBs be the "bad" guys in these situations.

But please, continue to submit the reports - they are a fantastic help.

I'll add a bit here. I know it's very frustrating to see obvious cheaters actively buying and selling players. I was outbid on a player not too long ago by a team that was using dirty money.

Our cheating detection tools are very good. Having said that, they need to be better. The BBs are working on this problem in addition to the other 1.3 million problems they are dealing with.

Even with the best tools, however, us GMs and BBs can't combat the cheaters by ourselves. We need these reports that you are all filing. Personally, between real life duties, running my team, and GM duties, I just don't have a lot of time to spend on the TL searching for cheaters (and good deals!). If you see a suspicious transfer, report it. It may take us some time, but we'll get to it. Thank you all for your help!

I think everything would be easier with a sensible way to get an average player exchange price.

If you can infer a statistically meaningful price for a player out of the TL history, cheating would be a lot more difficult to hide.

Unfortunately I have been thinking about the problems myself (as a day trade tool) and it's non-trivial. I'd still give it a go once we have some public API.

The problem boils down to a creating a sensible ranking function for players...

There are so many variables (i.e. skills) for each player that having a meaningful Transfer Compare is pretty much impossible.
