Australia has already had their weekly update complete. Depending on where you are, your update would happen at different times.

So in a few hours you would have had your update completed as well (if not already) and would put you on par with him

Question for those more experienced with the draft:

Is the "group demonstration" worthwhile? My assumption would be a strong "no", so much so that I wonder if I'm missing something here.

Since the initial Prospect rating is pretty much worthless, I find the group demonstration to be one of the better values. For 10 points you get to scout 19 players. Last season, I had 8 (4 who were 18) of those 19 end up being 5 star rated. Out of the 4 eighteen year-olds (didn't scout the 19s) who were rated as 5ball prospects initially, not a one was 5 star rated.

if i have zero scouting points right now, and i spend 40k a week till the end of the season, how many scouting points will i have? last year i left 4 pts on the table because someone told me i wasn't going to get anymore pts, however i did. my own fault. just trying to figure out the best way to spend all of them right now.

So, would you recommend using both of the 10pt scouting/demonstration options?

You run the risk of a lot of those 5-ball talents from the group demonstration are 1 or 2 ball potential, which may be the reason your scouts had them rated low with their "first impressions". This year I have a large number of 19 y/o in the draft, I wasn't planning on using the group demonstration but when I saw how the ages and heights worked out I decided I needed to use the group demonstration since the top of my initial rankings was not what I was looking for.

If you have 10+ 18yo's among the 1,2 ballers, use demonstration. If not, scout all the 18yo's separately.

That was my thought initially, but even though most of those 5 ball rated guys from the bottom of the prospect list were 3 for potential (the other was a 4), that's still better than the guys who were the 5ball prospects - not a single one of them was above 3 for potential and one was a 2 and another a 1. So even on potential, the 18s with high star ratings from the bottom of my prospect rankings were all at least as good, if not better, than any of the 18 year-olds who were at the top of my prospect list.

Based on salaries after the draft, the best 18 year old was actually #16 in my initial prospect ranking (I didn't scout him, so no real chance for me to draft him) and then most of the good 18s were in the mid-20s or among my group demo guys. The best 18 from my 5 ball prospects was 22nd overall and had lousy potential to boot. My #1 ranked prospected turnout out to be an 18yr old with 4/1 B- and the 30th ranked salary - not a top prospect by any measure.

Obviously with only one season of the new system, no one really has much information to go on, but I really don't think the initial prospect rating is of much value at all. It appears as if it might just be a random assortment of the players. Especially since each team gets a different initial prospect ranking. I believe someone even asked if "potential" was part of how the initial prospect ranking was determined and one of the BBs said that it wasn't.

Personally, I rank the group demonstration right behind the combine in terms of useful spending of points, but I can see other strategies based on how much funds you have.
