the priceton offense is a slow it down grind it out offense for teams that have solid perimeter players with low stamina or is used by a team without a true post presence it uses alot of screens to free up shots from the perimeter and backdoor cuts....to get a better idea of how it works watch a game featuring a ivy league school or a memphis game..since they use elements of the offense....


I've watched Princeton since Pete Carril designed this offense and watched U of Richmond coached by a former Princeton assistant run it now. A true Princeton offense is slow, takes a lot of 3 point shots and back door cuts. Everybody takes 3's including the nominal PFs and Cs. In fact an effective Princeton offense depends on the Center and PF being able to step outside and hit an open 3 on a consistent basis. The idea is to make as high a percentage of shots as possible so your opponents (presumed) advantage in rebounding is minimized.

Since at this stage of player development in BB, no one has big men who can consistently hit 3's, using Princeton is a bad choice, IMO. In time, it could work.

Essentially you would need one or two PGs, one or two SGs and two SFs playing up front to make this work.

This all assumes BB has modeled its Princeton option on the way the U of Princeton actually uses it.

Several of the BBs are either Princeton grads or matriculate there now, so I'm going to believe that your assumption is correct.

Put very simply I thought princeton offense avoided mid range shots and went for a mix of dunks (very high percentage inside shot) or 3 pointers (thus great shooters and range are needed in BB for PG, SG and SF but no inside shooting for them). Very very simplified but think that might help.

Run&Gun and Motion I thought were the same offense type in BB just that the speed was alot faster in R&G and thus if you are the favourite you should win as the number of shots taken is higher and the chance of bad luck over a run of say 20 shots is reduced compared to the whole match. A poorer team in a given match, conversly should try and slow the game down so less shots are taken. That's not well explained I know but is late. Hope you can follow the gyst though :-)
