I focus my team much more on offense than I do defense.

Great offense always beats great defense in this game. Especially at higher levels. I learned the hard way when I kept losing every game 88-62 my first trip in D.III.

That said, you need at least a GOOD defense to win.

lol that is not true what so ever, if you play defense , rebound and pass the ball well that puts you 3/4 the way to winning. I also dont think you need tremendous def in div 4 prominent - prolific would get you through the majority of the divisions, unless you get in one of those 2 or 3 that are crazy stacked.

If you look through my div the team with the best offense barely made the playoffs because he cant stop anyone. With that said I do like a balanced team. I dont have a superstar that way no team can say focus on my guards because if you do my center and pf will kill you.

I think this is very exaggerated. You probably don't need this much defense even for a championship team.

I think an above than average team goes something like this:

PG:
OD 8-10 ID 3-5

SG:
OD 9-11 ID 3-5

SF:
OD 8-9 ID 5-7

PF:
OD 5-7 ID 8-10

C
OD: 3-5 ID 9-11

As long as you have solid rebounding and manage enthusiasm/GS well, you should be fine with this. It should make playoffs in most leagues. Additionally, an extra guard with 13+ OD could really help your team shut down the high salary guys you'll see on some teams, but in no way are they necessary to make playoffs.

I agree those numbers earlier in the thread are really high. Sure, it would be great, but not essential.

I'm probably in an easy DIVIV, but I just ran through it in first place and have the league's #1 defense.

PG: 11OD/5ID
SG: 7/3
SF: 9/7
PF: 5/11
C: 3/11

My theory is that defense is cheaper and more reliable than spending all that cash just for your offense to have an off-night. Any great offense can win games but usually the champions are teams that bring the great defense. It goes without saying, and I know it sounds cliche, but offense wins games, but defense wins championships. However, above all else, it's better to field a team that is cohesive offensively and defensively because whenever one has an off-night, the other needs to step up.

My opinion is that it never hurts to field a defensive team. In the world of BB, it's cheaper to build around defense first followed up with complimenting that defense with offensive skills.

Yeah? And if a bad offense has an off night? You still wont win.

I beat a team that whores OD(typical BB stategy) 64 to 49 and they crunched me earlier in the season.

The only thing that stacking defense like that does is make your opponent score less points. It doesn't help you win when you can't score yourself.

Defense leads to offense. Turnovers and steals get your team possesion and can lead to easy baskets on the fast break.

There's really not much fast break mechanics in this game unfortunately, and that's evidenced by the play by play.

So that argument is kind of moot though it is true in reality.

Either way steals do lead to posession which gives you more offensive opportunities.

Uh. Highest PF =/= best offense.

You have probably the best offense. In the game you played you were .5 lower than his OS despite playing a neutral offense.

Plus the ridiculous rebounding.

So in the end, if and when you win your league, the best offensive team still won.

i promise you I will stop you from scoring then if I miss on my end I will get the O-rebound and put it back in.

A team like you are talking about if you were in my div 3 i woulda beat you to death. I am not talking about having 15 def and 7 JS. But if you have 12 - 13 def and 12 js or is you are pretty good. you do have to have a well rounded team. also your team has to feed off one another. if you have good inside scorers and crappy passing your inside will never score.

I want my team to have the fundamentals like i said previously. Def, handling, passing and rebounding. I can tell when the game engine is running and it says so and so passed to your other guy as he was driving to the basked I know before I read it all if he scored or not by who passed him the ball.

Great thing about this game is there are a lot of ways to win so do what you want and have fun doing it.
