great idea 2 start the thread

agree we need a redraft but probably need 2 keep some teams

sharks have had koop, jw & akuma since season 1
we have had yoda, naker, rob & me since season 1 or 2

i would agree with the handicap system would force the abbl teams 2 really have 2 move players around

no1 wants an all abbl league that would be dull so i guess 2 equal leagues is the way 2 go

working on ur handicap system

abbl v d2 or d3 v d3
the lower team can name 2 players that cant play
abbl v d3
the lower team can name 4 players that cant play

we would have a special handicapping thread & probably the nominations would need to be in by tuesday 2 be valid - last minute nominations arent fair on the top team

only bad thing i would hate 2 play wihout xie & i know titans love udi & could u imagine smeltztroopers without smeltz? - would it be 2 complex to have each team nominate 1 guy @ the start of the season that cant be picked?

a quick writeup of the game of the round seems easy & maybe just nominating mvps of each game

& 2 be honest i havent done it much but the naker style mvps - just list 3 guys w no reasons only takes like 1 minute & is still better than nothing

I think injuries would make this tough, imagine you have 2 guys injured and a third assigned to not play the season. Tuesday midnight sounds good and if no nomination then the higher div team gets to do the nominating instead but it must be on of their say top 3 or top 5 salaried players.

i think it needs to go back to 24 committed teams...

I like the idea of the feds, but i think there needs to be a league forum for each of the 2 leagues to drive more interaction between teams playing against each other.

No tanking teams :D Only teams that are gonna be competitive in their league for the upcoming season.. Maybe any team that starts tanking mid PL sits out next PL season or something. Tankers are generally less engaged than those trying, all they care about is skill pops or how much $$$ they make each week...

There is no fun limiting teams to who they can and can not play on their roster... the PL is the 1 game each week you get to put everything on the court, with no training restrictions and just play the best team.. everyone should be entitled to that chance.. Maybe i wont beat Yoda in a PL game, but i might learn something out of the experience!

No re-draft.. the calamari have a good fed, why should they be split up because 2 other feds cant get their shit together? tthe tipping contest was designed to do just that for the league overall, maybe whoever the fed commishes are need to be pro-active and start different things in feds to get posts happening!

@ petevas the reason we have seperate feds is we have a lot of secrets there

* in the old days we used to plan out all our pl games strategy
* scouting reports of all the other teams in the pl with their players from anytime they were for sale or were bought
* drafting lists - sometimes we have had 3-4 calamari in 1 league & we share info - could have done it this season in abbl but yoda & trikster arent drafting
* league strategy which is great 2 get the opinion of 1 or 2 guys you respect like trikster, iwen, yoda, rob, naker etc but u dont want so many people seeing it that there is a leak & it gets back 2 ur opponent
* training updates - we do this every week
* the occasional bitch session about peeps like fanny, zyler, splitj etc
* full lists of our players skills - not every1 does this but if u want peeps opinions they need the facts & obv we dont want 2 many seing these

enough?

@ leeroy

i agree w just 3 feds - sharks still have a very active core & so do we calamai but from what i hear guppies/oil tankers & kevin r long dead

so i agree with everything u said

* 24 managers in 2 equal leagues w mllamas handicap system - if u dont agree dont play
* 3 newish federations calamari, sharks & ???
* 3 captains - maybe yoda, koop & mllama would be good as they r 3 top level abbl teams
* 2 protected picks each - but who decides wont every1 want whitebeard as a protected pick?
* 5 rounds in the draft

@ skyhook good point against the handicap system

i often do "test" lineups in the pl & use it to experiment & with some top players out that wouldnt work

thinking aloud about the 3 federations

if it was
yoda - calamari
koop - sharks
mllama - sea otters? beavers? platypuses? (trying 2 think of the closest aquatic creature 2 a wombat)

protected picks could be

yoda - calamari - naker & abigfishy
koop - sharks - jw & akuma
mllama - platypuses - dire & coachnoodles

i know yoda would try 2 pick as many as he could of rob, trikster, matty, ezyfrag while koop would surely want wb, bainsy & skyhooks

Don't agree with this at all. If we're going to "fix" this PL we'll need to make sacrifices, a mentality like that is selfish. By all means if you can come up with a compromise i'll be all ears, but an attitude like this and we may as well stop now.

i dont see how it is selfish, considering i am not in the calamari... i dont know why it works, it could be driven by 1 or 2 people... take them out and move em to Sharks, Sharks then thrive and Calamari dies..

the issue is getting EVERYONE involved and participating, not taking active people from 1 fed and moving to another.. That doesnt fix the problem, it simply moves it from 1 fed to another...

It's not selfish, as he isn't even a Calamari I don't believe.

Regardless, here are my thoughts on the issue:

I like the idea of the handicap system.
If you play someone in a division above you, you should be able to nominate one player that they can't use.
If you play someone two divisions above you, you should be able to nominate two players that they can't use.
This is a slight adjustment from Fishy's suggestion of two and four respectively, which I feel is too many players to nominate.

Regarding the MVPs. I think that we should have MVP writeups next season, however, they should only be for a limited number of games. These limited number of games will be the six games chosen for the tipping games.
In other words, the six matches that are selected each week for the tipping competition will be the only matches that will have MVP writeups. Now I realise some people may complain that this means that it advantages the teams that get picked for the six games each week, but that's just part of what makes it more interesting. Each week we have different teams being picked, so over the entire season it should balance out. I also suggest choosing the matches that will have the closest games for the tipping competition so that every game will be more interesting.

Regarding the reshuffling of federations, I don't mind doing this if people seem to want to try and get to meet new people. But if it is the case, then I agree that all the federations need to be completely reshuffled. Or perhaps each federation can keep three teams, and the rest get shuffled.

I agree with most of what you and others have said, Naker.

Firstly, I like the idea of one player being nominated for each level above your team you play. That is, Div IIII v Div II = 1 player from Div II sits out. Div III v ABBL = 2 players nominated to sit out from ABBL team. I think this would be a fair handicap given that the loss of 2 key ABBL players against a strong Div III team will be far more competetive.

Secondly, I disagree with the MVP write-ups being relegated to only those matches chosen for the week. I disagree for the reason you put forward: teams will be unfairly disadvantaged. How to fix this? Simple: use your system, Naker, where a simple 3/2/1 votes are given (listing important stats like 33 pts, 22 reb etc) would be simple, and allow all teams to have a shot at seeing their players gain MVP votes.

Thirdly, like you, Naker, if everyone is really keen to mix up the federations to try and have mangaers work with other managers, I'll happily do this in the spirit of keeping the Fishbowl active and alive. I must just add that I am, will always be, a Calamari...regardless of who drafts me. lol However, the Fishbowl has allowed me to meet so many awesome managers that I wouldn't have a problem joining them. Which leads me to my final comment...

...although not a Calamari, Skyhookz, I would never describe you as 'selfish' mate. You just understand that sometimes teams work their arses of to become a great team and that breaking them up when they achieve this is somewhat unfair.

@ leeroy i agree we will have 2 make some changes

@ skyhook u rnt selfish but i think changes r needed

@ naker y maybe ur suggestion is better 2 just exclude 1 player in the handicap maybe that is a big debate worth a poll?

dont like ur suggestion on mvps just doing random games

but i do think the "naker style" riteups r the go
