Hmm, not sure I got that, but I know the U21 coach unfortunately didn't get lineups set today, hopefully in the coming weeks we'll get this taken care of and be competitive in the consolation tourney.

Tough loss last night, but not unexpected. France is a better team. I don't know if you used this match to test run some strategies, but I hope you'll abandon the use of Austin as your starting C. His assist statistics (2 all of last season in the EBBL) speak for themselves. He is precisely the type of 1-demential best we need to move away from if we ever hope to win. The good news is that he seems to be under training again, so maybe this will help balance him some.

Looking forward to a successful season with a fully-engaged manager. Keep up the good work!

Whether Austin should be a regular starter is a matter for the current coach, not England's least popular coach in history, I would respectfully suggest.

Austin doesn't pass, but he also doesn't turnover the ball and he blocks shots. Given he shoots better than .500 his lack of passing is not the issue it might otherwise be. He also hits free throws, which is why he's worth his place on the roster while similar players in days gone past like Nigel Cubby never were.

Yep, that's pretty much why Austin's passing isn't a huge issue. When we go inside he's meant to be our main scorer anyways, so it's not so bad that he's a black hole. As we test different offenses he may see more or less time.

Of course it's ultimately a matter for the current coach, but does that mean we can't give our opinion? Certainly you aren't shy about giving your's. Forums are meant to be places to engage with this game. I think it is a good thing if we debate NT strategy and players. Maybe it will get more people interested in training for the NT -- which, by the way, is the only way we are going to improve because, much as you are suggesting by bringing up my popularity as NT coach, the talent pool I had was my biggest handcuff. No matter what strategy I chose or which players started, England would have ended up in relatively the same place last season (maybe with an extra win, but no further in the tournament).

With far worse players, both Astra and myself achieved more and had approval ratings in the 60s. You finished on 30something.
Your biggest handicap as a coach is yourself. I have little time for you as a buzzerbeater coach, and that does come through in my posts to the point of rudeness, I acknowledge.

I suspect your motivation for knocking Austin is simply fear of being made to look even worse should the new roster be successful. I have completely reinvented my roster to give Austin a club that can support his salary and still be competitive in the EBBL - because he offers something unique. You now want to slag him off to protect any remains of reputation you have.

The only other motivation I can think of is that you seek to deny a fellow EBBL coach the extra merchandising revenue that an NT starter brings. I'd like to believe you when you claim to merwly provoke debate and have England's best interests at heart, but your track record as coach suggests you have little interest in helping the NT be successful - and think only of your club.

Not true, you would like not to believe me. Typical Brit you are cloaking your insults by saying one thing while meaning the exact opposite.

In any case, I trust our current manager, and time will tell.

I don't believe you. That gives me no pleasure.
I'm glad you trust the current NT manager, his record as England U21 is second to none and he's earned the right not to have his selections questioned by his predecessor after one game.

@Astra. You'll always be the least popular, but you got results so you weren't disapproved of ;-)

Woo guys, it's all good. And a very tough to swallow loss in game 2 as manager. An absolutely epic 4th quarter collapse after a monster 3rd :(

It really brought our 2 biggest weaknesses to light though:1)A lack of defense, our offense was fine all game, but we just couldn't get it done defensively(10/9 defenses are just not going to cut it), and 2)another one that I won't mention here, but I'm sure everyone knows.

Nothing to lose, so get wacky!(though make sure to give me a reason it could work.
