I don't really understand why old players are considered such a poor investment. Yes they lose skills but they don't lose them that fast. Yes they become salary bloats but at such a low salary its not that much to lose/year.

I just bought myself a 34 yr old SF who has 19/20's in 3 different skills. He plays best as a SG and averages 12.5 Rating per game last year in that position. He has a salary of 20,000 which will probably fall by 1000-2000 a year. He cost me 200,000 which was a high premium for an old man. However, with his skill set he will be a great scorer for 2-3 seasons. Unfortunately he will probably not sell for much but that doesn't concern me. I am in Div 4 and he will definately make the all-star team and probably MVP voting. Also, I believe he will help lead me to a title shot.

My backup SG who I paid 150,000 for and is 26 with 15,000 salary was at best an 11.0 rating and averaged only 10.0 rating last year.

If they are playing well and help win games what's wrong with the older player?

His salary was less than 11K last year. I expect his salary to fall to 9.5K or so.

I had 7 guys on my team above the age of 33 and none of them had a salary drop of more than 1K. Of course when they all have a salary below 11,000 it makes a difference.

I don't know where you get your numbers from. Have you ever carrier a roster of veterans? I think at most I may have had 4 skill drops on a single player. I get more pops from my rookies than I do get drops from my veterans even though I carry more veterans and train only 3 players at a time normally.

Last couple seasons the only reason I bought veterans is because I was cash strapped. I wanted to have money for a decent arena too since I was stuck in a low div where I won all my games anyway.

I would advise anyone who was trying to get out of D5 or D4 quickly that veterans are a cheap way to do so. Just because they are worthless when you go to sell them doesn't mean that you should pay 150,000 just so you can sell him at 100,000 a year later. Rather I suggest buy 3 50,000 players keep them for two years and if they don't sell on the waiver oh well...they were cheap anyway. Then you have three players instead of 1 for your limited cash.
