what I want to say is to have a wider list of names in the database. A idea could be to ask the users to post their name, surname and nationality for some time and to add that list at the end. Nicknames are a different issue.
In this way it would be just adding without creating anything new...it is for this that I think it shouldn't be extremely difficult.
anyway you're already doing a great job. this is a thing I've already seen done in other games like this.

I don't think there is a shortage of names in Buzzerbeater

Each country has a existing database with probably hundreds of thousands of names.

The problem of duplicate names only occurs with random naming bugs. Usually there are very few repeating names in Buzzerbeater

The most common names like John Smith are going to appear a few times but they have still a very minor chance of repeating.

I think adding names to the databases might be an option for a GM power in the future but at the moment I think the BBs have much more important things to be worrying about.

Hi,
thanks for this great game and of course my issue is a minor problem that I realize to be real anyway. I understand you have other more important issues to take care before this one. I just say that it would be nice to do this even with the purpose to involve users in a more direct way. Moreover it should not be very difficult to widen the names database. Of course this of mine is only a mere suggestion. and I do not want to complain about anything. I am sure I'm not the only one who noticed a shortage of names. If I well remember this thing was done at the beginning in Hattrick as well. Anyway take it just as a piece of advice.

Here's my question - where is it obvious that there's a shortage of names?

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

Ok...the shortage of names is debatable and a personal opinion, a minor issue anyway. Let's say that it would be nice to add the names of users to involve them...this is the idea. Is it really complicated? Im just asking...if it is it doesn't matter...

Why does there have to be a shortage of names in order for others to be added?

Are there size limitations? Do you have distribution frequencies, or do you represent frequency by repeating names? The US Census bureau has a database of the most common US surnames from the 2000 census.
