After seeing the updates today, the following eleven players have been announced to play the first season 28 match against Prathet Thai:

Tomas Perera (capt)
Bob Grief
Noel Seers
Hrvaju Buckerica
Chris Gingut (VC)
Alex Rudd
Terry McInerny

Very lineball amongst a few bigs, with some players with great secondaries available to come into the side if needed.

Introducing the Team

Captain: Tomas Perera
aka: TP
NBA resemblance: Steve Nash
NBL Resemblance: Ricky Grace/ Cedric Jackson

TP is a household name to anyone who followed the s27 team, having secured a position on the team as a 20yr old. His strengths are driving and dishing dimes. His idol is Tony Parker, and he loves Training Programs, Target Practice, Triple Pivoting, and Toilet Paper.

Vice Captain: Chris Gingut
aka: Christian, Gingernuts
NBA resemblance: Dominique Wilkins
NBL resemblance: Sam McKinnon

Christian is the real X factor on this team. He reaks of talent, has no real weaknesses and will be relied upon to create some mismatches throughout season 28. Watch for those 25-30pt games when he goes to town on those unsuspecting SFs.

Starter: Terry McInerney
aka:
NBA resemblance: Patrick Ewing
NBL resemblance: James Crawford

Ok, you dont get labelled the next James Crawford without showing a while heap of skill. Expect this guy to live up to the hype, he can play. Will look to be one of the top scorers in this team and will annihilate anyone he matches up on. Just dont ask him to pass.

Starter: Florian Alcock
aka: cockblock
NBA resemblance: Horace Grant
NBL resemblance: Jerai Grant

The teams designated shotblocker, Alcock is a defensive specialist with a styling hookshot as his trademark scoring option.
He is the ultimate role player to compliment the stars of the team. Expect big rebound numbers, scoring at high efficiency, and assists when he has a top defender on him.

Hrvoje Buckarica
aka: Buckshot
NBA resemblance: Clyde Drexler
NBL resemblance: Damian Martin

Buckarica is a coaches dream. He is the ultimate teammate. With heavy minutes, expect to see this guy pushing for the illusive u21 triple double. The only thing he is lacking is a brilliant nickname.

Noel Seers
aka: No Ulcers
NBA resemblance: Dwayne Wade
NBL resemblance: Jermaine Beal

Noel is a big game player. He is a streaky scorer. He is hard nosed, just look at his mug. Best of all, he knows how to win, just ask his coach. Seers will likely see a lot of game time if he develops at the rate he has the past season.

Bob Grief
aka: Good Grief
NBA resemblance: John Stockton
NBL resemblance: Cal Bruton

Grief comes into the sides first game as a 20year old jet. Lightning quick, you probably wont even know he is there, he is in and out like a dog at the fair. His best friend is sure to be Lachlan Munro (see below why). The development of Good Grief will be vital to the success in season 29, and TP is already fast tracking his development. If it is as fast this season as last, good grief he is going to be a handful!

Lachlan Munro
aka:
NBA resemblance: Karl Malone
NBL Resemblance: Shawn Redhage

Munro will rustle a few feathers this season. He is a win at all costs man. He loves posting up and feeling where his defender is before out stepping him to the basket. He is good friends with above the rim and visits there often.

Lowell Waugh
aka:
NBA resemblance: Charles Barkley
NBL resemblance: Mika Vukona

Waugh is a mean man. Bad tempered at the best of times, he often takes his anger out on the opposition, and the boards. If there is something going on that is not kosher, expect two things. Expect Waugh to step in, and expect it to be resolved quickly.

Alex Rudd
aka: A Rudd
NBA resemblance: Josh Smith
NBL resemblance: Lucas Walker

Love child of ex-prime minister K Rudd, A Rudd finds himself in a much more enjoyable role than his father. Rudd will surprise a few with his stat lines this season, and his impact off the bench will at times be important.

Tobias Farruggia
aka: Uggies
NBA resemblance: Pau Gasol
NBL resemblance: Matt Knight

Uggies is a post machine. get him in the low post, and the ball is as good as in the basket. Look out for some regular high percentages, and count the number of putbacks this guy gets in a night, it'll keep you entertained when nothing else does

Aussies off to a flying start with a 44pt win over Thailand

End score: 129 - 85
Top scorer: Terry McInerny (24pts)
Top rebounds: cockblock (20)
Top assists: TP (10)
Interesting stat: 5 players in the Aussie team received a rating of 13.0 or above. Around the grounds, Singapore had 1 player with a 13.0 rating in their 63pt win over Lubnan, and Hong Kong did not have anyone with a 13.0 or above rating in their 30pt win over kazakhstan.

It was an interesting start to the game with the u21 coach experimenting a little with the lineups. Cockblock got off to a flyer with a ridiculous block in the first minute of play, sending the ball out to a lucky fan in the 10th row. It set a great sign to Thailand early as they hesitated to attack the rim from there on in, settling for shots further out in fear of cockblock embarrassing them. It didnt stop him from sending the ball flying away in protection twice more in the first quarter, and 4 for the match. The fourth rejection was so well timed off a layup, that Australian volleyball middle hitter and powerhouse spiker Thomas Edgar stood up and applauded.

The scouting report from Lazz was pretty accurate, with Thailands PG setting up the majority of scoring opportunities for the team. Not only that, but he was very effective defensively, holding our PGs to low FG%. But TP showed his class with 10 dimes, and he couldnt be denied, scoring 15pts of his own. Hrjojo Buckarica (aka Buckshot) as the impact player off the bench, he played PG, SG and SF at various stages but broke down the defense extremely well in all positions, going 6-8 from the field in limited time.

MVP votes:
Very close voting here with 2 players both putting an absolute show on. TP had a very influential game, with an amazing +49pts when he was on court. His 10 dimes were a real highlight, also adding 4 boards. But cockblock was an inspirational force inside, with 9-14 fgs, and putting up a 20pt/20reb game, adding 4 blocks and a team high 14.5 rating, securing him the 3 votes. TP was awarded the 2 votes, and a handful of players put in a worthy game for the final vote. McInerny was awarded the 1 vote with his team high 24 pts/12 boards/2 blk game, with a special mention to Uggies, who went 10-13fgs for his 20pt/11 reb with an awesome 0 turnovers, No Ulcers with his quality 12pt 9 ass, 4 rebs , and Buckshot as previously mentioned with his 6-6 fgs in the first 3 qtrs before cooling in the 4th when the game was dusted.

3 votes- cockblock
2 votes- TP
1 vote- McInerny

5 of his 8 misses were 3pters though, maybe PtB just wasnt his offense! At the end of the day he is a great build and will perform well supporting TP as a 20yr old, and will be the star of the show next year when the big games start!

Well done.

For a bit of fun, anyone got some clever nicknames for any of these guys? Must be something good for Waugh, McInerny, and Munro, or any of the others who ive attempted to label.

Munro would have to be nick named Marilyn.

Waugh could be Mark, Steve or Junior or perhaps even World (World War)

McInerny could be Ralph (McInerny) who was a famous author

Bob Grief could be Geldof

Bob Geldof certainly has had his fair share of Grief in life
