I have noticed that the players play to their strengths within the confines of whatever offense you place them in...my two pieces of copper

When you say this every single post you make, you must have a lot of copper.

One thing touched only lightly here is that:
a) it is heavily influenced by the tactics you're using
b) it is heavily influenced by the skills of other players in your team
c) it is heavily influenced by the skills of a player's direct match up

a) it seems that using tactics which favour outside shooting will boost the number of 3 pt shots across the board at any position, including big men. Equally, in LI even jump shooters will take more inside shots

b) it goes like this: depending on match ups vs their defenders, depending on Driving, Passing, Handling some players will take more shots than others. Example: a player with high passing will usually look to assist an open man when guarded by a player with high defensive capabilities. If all the players on your roster have good passing except one that one will take more shots and more bad shots than otherwise. Another example: Driving determine if a player can get open (I believe both with and without the ball in their hands) in some areas of the court, so usually high DR players, especially guards, tend to take more shots

c) if your big man is playing a high ID player, he will naturally take fewer shots inside the area. This means he will take more mid-range and 3 pt shots. If he has poor outside skills he will just take fewer shots as his team mates won't pass to him and/or he won't typically take the shot. However if he does have outside skills he will take a higher proportion of outside shots even when his total shot count is a bit lower. The individual match up is clearly compounded by the ability/inability of his team mates to find an open man or get open themselves and by the tactics used. Don't expect your guards to try to drive to the basket and use their advantage in IS (theirs) vs ID (their opponent's) if you run R&G for example.
