I'm not sure about this, but I think that not all 3 point shots are jumpshots.
if a player for instance is open, why should he jump on his shot?
so it is possible (but again, NOT sure) that in those cases JS is not taken into account.
But I am positive that for 3 ointers the JR will be more important then the JS skill.
the reason why I say avoid princeton, is because princeton will shoot less jumpers then any other tactic. While motion tries to take jumpers over other shots...
so in your example yes, a 5/8 will shoot better 3s then a 8/5 imo.
you are also right about the range. HIGHER JR will negatively affect shots further away from the basket LESS (note that I write shots, and not jumpshots, and yes, a jumpshot is a shot, but a shot isn't always a jumpshot) ;)
So if he takes a jumper, and he has worthless JS, it will stay worthless even with high JR. But with low JR, it will be even worse.
