I am sure the App will happen, when Apps are about to become obsolete again. Really poor job on this so far...

It's really tough for BB to make this app because they don't have unlimited resources, or even a lot of resources (from what I've assumed).

I am with everyone 100% when they say Bb needs an app, but they also can't just snap their fingers and make an app. Hopefully it will be done soon, but we as users have to understand that things like this takes time.

Utopia money would have been more than enough to get the app done.

Re-read what he wrote. He said "resources", not money. I believe it is very important to understand that there is a huge difference between resources and money. BB may have enough money to produce an app (although I would still prefer to wait longer for a very good app, then get a below average app, using the money they have now, if it is not sufficient for a good app), but resources are different.

From BB-Marin earlier in this thread:
We know there are lots of people which offered to help us with the development of BB for free and this would be a chance to prove that they meant business. They would get some kind of reward, surely, we're not robots

That's why we are considering outsourcing the app to the community and interested devs as a semi open source thing but the greatest obstacle, as has already been said, was code and data access. We don't want developers to be able to gain ingame advantage due to their work on the app.

The only possible solution I thought of so far would be a tight cooperation between the devs and us, where we'd need to build a platform which would give the devs the needed data for their work without giving too much away. It would be a slow and painful process but could be basically essential for the survival of the game in the long run.

I'm open to suggestions (if you don't mind me hijacking this thread) on how to do this, especially from people who have information on how this is kind of thing is usually done. I can also make this more official once we get the general idea on how to do this.

It seems more like BB lacks the workers/developers in order to make this app while maintaining the in-game integrity of BuzzerBeater, as they do not want workers to gain an advantage from helping out with the app. Money is not the issue.

If money wasn't issue, they'd outsource it to professionals. Marin post clearly says - we don't have/don't want to spend money, looking for someone to do it for "free".

For me, the BB looks completely mismanaged. Someone is just letting this boat float, while it still generates money.

If that is your argument, I can simply say that you aren't being realistic as to the cost/benefit aspect of BB and this process in trying to create an app. Perhaps my statement of money not being the issue, is a bit of an overstatement so let me clarify: BB currently probably has the funds to allow members of our community who can help create an app for BB take the reins and make one, while paying them some sum of money if requested for their services. The problem is that they don't want these members to gain an advantage. If BB was not worried about these members gaining advantages in the game and hurting the integrity, this app would have probably already been completed (noted that these people would most likely not be professionals but could get the job done and would be much much cheaper than outsourcing this to professionals). BB using all of their funds to outsource this to professionals to make an app is not smart short term or long term in my opinion. It would be like spending $200m making a decent movie but only having ticket sales hover right around that $200m and not be cost effective in the long run *cough cough* Green Lantern. This is BuzzerBeater, an online game with around 22k users, not ESPN with bucket-loads of money to spend on professionals. I guess my main point is that BB has the funds to pay people who would want to help make an app for cheap, but not a direct process that allows them to do so yet. I can understand your perspective and frustrations though.

Also in regards to being more productive and still responding to your post:

Phyr posted in this thread awhile back:
Why not crowdfund the app on a site like kickstarter? If you get funded, you can hire a professional to work for you. You'll have your money and you don't have to worry about giving a BB player data access.

I think this is still a very good idea and this would solve the problem of not having any members gain access that would give them an advantage and then a professional could make an app for BB without nearly as much cost going into it. Thoughts?
