Australia shown the way by Hong Kong
Australia has lost a very close battle with rivals Hong Kong overnight to finish 2nd overall in the first stage of the Tournament.
The lead changed several times during the game, with Australia finishing each of the first 3 quarters on top. But scoring was not a highlight for either team, defense was shining through at both ends as teams found it difficult to find avenues to score.
Christian, in his first game back since his 3 week vacation played well, and we will only improve with his game shape getting back to his best. Our key bigs also had a night to forget, mostly directly due to their minutes played the previous week. Put bluntly, fix it lads.
MVP votes
3 votes- Cockblock. Not an outstanding performance, but a 17.0 rating, shooting above 50%fg, and 11 boards was impressive enough. He needed to see more time coach!
2 votes- Christian. Defensively he kept a key player, Vu An, to 1-7 tonight, while still hitting 2 3s, grabbing a couple of boards and assists too. His FG% wasnt great, but he was our top scorer with... 10???
1 vote- Tubby Waugh. Waugh got himself a double double. Could have been a triple double if they would allow you to accumulate 10 fouls. Refs decided 6 was enough. He stepped up as a starter when we needed him and certainly held his own, rating 15.0.
Interesting stats: Alot. We had 5 turnovers to 17. 11 steals to 3, yet fouled them 26 to 11 where the game was clearly lost. Our team ratings were all above Hong Kongs apart from inside shot which we were just behind. Good signs.
We now await our next schedule announcement finishing 2nd in Pool B.
Team managers, lets get our training programs right and our game shapes high.
Go Aussies.
