I have a couple of friends who went straight into relief after uni. Did you do the same or go from classroom teacher into relief?

Personally, I love watching students improve throughout the course of the year. As a parent of 4 (5 if you include my 20 yr old step-son) I also enjoy the security a permanent position provides, especiaqlly sick leave (would kill me with my young ones if I didn't have sick leave available).

Mind you, over here in the west relief staff get plenty of work and had I chosen to do relief I would have survived. The daily rate for a relief teacher continues to rise and is pretty decent now.

Anyway, good to know that we chalkies are well represented in BB... :-)

Yeah there are quite a few of us.

The day I start getting less than 4 days a week on average (I haven't had a day off for about 5 months), then I'll start looking at full time. But, until then, the money is too good and the hours are amazing.

I'll be moving west next year, hopefully. I hear the money is better there than in QLD.

Don't worry about the money being better...the people are better. ;-)

Sounds like you're getting plenty of work over there. Nice. When you're ready to journey to the great state of WA let us know. Rob (Titans), Brooksy (UWA Panthers) and I are holding down the fort as BB reps in the West. You'd be a welcome addition.

Cheers mate.

The day after the accident I saw a chick I know had posted a status on FB, 'this cabbie driver just running red lights and everything, what a legend". Naturally I went off on a massive facebook rant at her. What is scary is if I had been at that same point 1 second earlier he would have hit my drivers side and I could be seriously injured or dead now. Guess I was lucky in the grand scheme of things.
I didn't realise how much of a pain not having a car actually was. I'm hoping the insurance gets processed quickly so I can get back to a life of normality.

I do relief, so I teach prep to 12. Most people don't like it but I think it's awesome: no marking, report cards, lesson plans.. I leave at 3 every day!

Massive piles of correction, incredible preperation load, students with serious gaps in their skills and knowledge, the pressure of the end of year exams constantly hanging over us, teaching two different year 12 subjects this year one for the first time, I leave at 5:30 to 8:30 each day.

At least the English exam is over and my students were so happy with the paper, they believe they were well taught, we shall see in a month. One more big exam next Monday and then I am on easy street for a few weeks until we begin again.

But I do love it, it is quite a special job and you are very much appreciated. On the other hand we have a regular substitute teacher who works most days and he is very popular with the students as well.

LOL Nice. Sandgropers everywhere...love it!

It would be interesting to record what state everyone hails from. (I feel another thread coming on!) lol

Could have a state of origins...

...or not (WA would win it anyway). Enough said.
