This ANZAC war is not in the ANZAC spirit it would seem. What's the deal?

Bloody aussies saying I promised something when I didn't. I would really like to see one of them run it.

Iwen was trying to do the right thing (withdraw so as not to field scrubs against a strong opponent) in the spirit of the game, and gets harrassed.

The spirit of this is to get as many people playing by PLAYING, not withdrawing.

Given that I put my name in and didn't get a gig highlights that NZ is being too selective; either open it up to everyone who wants to play or don't.

I'm human, I do make mistakes. Sorry about that.

Look, Ralph54, setting up this Scrim War isn't easy given the personalities in the game. Hell, it wouldn't be as enjoyable if there weren't the different personalities. I'm sure your doing your best with what you've got to work with and I appreciate that you want teams playing and not withdrawing. All I can really say to that is while I'm sure those who put their hand up initially to play in the ANZAC Scrim do so with the best of intentions, in the ANZAC spirit if you like, shit happens. Of course, as you would no doubt acknowledge, as much as managers want to play in the ANZAC Scrim it is a secondary choice to progressing in BB leagues. This is where the problems arrive. Teams make decisions based on their needs for next season THEN realise how it will affect the ANZAC Scrim War they initially agreed to and were keen to play in. I just think we need to realise that this will happen and roll with it. If we can all 'roll' with the changes that occur prior to the ANZAC Scrim actually starting while still have a reasonable amount of teams available then great, all is good. IF not then perhaps a re-think for future Scrims needs to occur.

While it is only a game, and a very competitive one, our two countries have a strong history. Let's keep it that way.

Very good point. Btw hopefully the grouping does help, not make it worse :P. Oh well, guess that is how it works.

Look...no need to get aggressive here. It should be a friendly rivalry not an aggressive one :)

I appreciate you organising this between our countries but as many others have stated the timing is not quite right and some of our Aussie managers are doing the right and ethical thing by pulling out rather than play a team of scrubs.

The reason I haven't thrown my hat in the ring (and I assume a lot of the ABBLers as well) is the possibility of injury. I was personally burnt last season participating in that ANZAC scrimmage and got one of my key players injured for 2 weeks when the official season haven't even begun! That injury cost me at least a win in the ABBL and I just don't feel like risking my players again given what was on the line.

Believe me, if you organise it as the last week of the season you would get a lot more interest from the Aussie side. I think this is a good compromise in future seasons.

Now for some friendly banter: I think the Aussies here will win easily if we all field our ABBLers!! :P

LOL I second that!

Only reason why I haven't put my hand up for the ANZAC scrimwar is cos I'm still chasing flags, yes I'm that selfish. =P

NZ won 4-0. All the other matches weren't played.

If you aren't totally upset and frustrated and you make this in the LAST week of the season or during the allstar week you will get a lot more teams participating with their real players.
