Poly-rally

After their heartbreaking loss at the Philippine cup, critics and analysts began to wonder if team Polydozel really bears an image as one of the teams who are worthy members in the premier league.

However, team Polydozel made these people to think twice over again.

Team Polydozel managed to shut down Devil Bats Deimon, leading to their first loss, last night with the score of 52-76 at the PAL Arena. It is Devil Bats' first loss of the season and team Polydozel's third straight win at the Premier League.

It is also the first time the Devil Bats managed to score in less than 60 points (52) making this game their lowest score in a game so far.

Mervyn Jamora scored 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Hipolito Guarnes, who leads the team in scoring with 23.2 ppg, only managed to score 17 points in this low-scoring ballgame.

Out of 8 players rotating in the ballgame, Eugene Demafeliz is the only player in Devil Bats Deimon who managed to score in double digits (22) in the ball game. Israel native Yossi Michaeli, who averages 13 points per game in 7 games, didn't produce a goal in the ballgame. shooting 0 of 11 shots, thanks to the pesky defensive play by Guarnes and Nolie Corneja. But he managed to grab 11 rebounds.

"Coach told us to concentrate on Michaeli, as he delivers one of the deadliest jumpers in the league. If every Deimon players contribute, then we will have a harder game to win." says Nolie Corneja, who only scored 8 points.

"We tried to play conservatively slow to disrupt their momentum. as soon as the second half started, we knew that they're gonna play aggressively, so we tried to play full court press and give pressure on the shooters, especially on Michaeli." says Cirilio Magoncia, who started at point guard in the game.

Deimon's leading scorer, Christian Suropia, only scored 5 points, as Magoncia and rookie guard Juppert Zamora pleased fans with their prominent defense.

"We just motivated ourselves to play more on defense, as this team is hard to defend. Devil Bats is composed of talented players who are always on offense-frenzy. Everyone can shoot and can manage to score in double digits. So we tried to maim their offensive power, and it worked." says team coach of team Polydozel.

This is the first meeting between the two teams, and despite the intimidating standing of the Devil Bats Deimon, team Polydozel managed to even all odds and make the game in their favor.

"Deimon is a good team, which makes them exciting to face." says the team trainer Cristobal Key. "The better team you beat, the better your critics will shut up."

"We proved once again that we are still one of the teams worth looking at. Our aim is to play in the playoffs. Not to play for Relegation." Says Guarnes.

BBB future looks bright for Jubas beasts, Air 21 Express

The first ever BuzzerBeater's Best is now ongoing for the third round. 64 surviving teams battle it out on a one-game, win-or-go-home situation, and our country's pride, the Air 21 Express and Jubas Beasts, are still active for the cup.

Four teams represent the Philippines in the first ever BBB cup. Unfortunately, the RED ROBINS were eliminated in the second round by Malaysia's Shohoku Basketball, ending their vie for the coveted international tournament.

Along with RED ROBINS, Trailblazers United also lost early in the tournament. as one of the favorites to play further in the cup, fans seemed surprised at their loss.

"This is rather shocking. we never imagined that the Blazers would lose in that round... and in such a big lead. They seem unprepared." says one Blazer fan.

The Jubas Beasts however, find the first stages of the tournament easy as they keep giving blow-out wins. Their focus at the tournament is somewhat serious, and having fun all at the same time.

"We wanted to play better and enjoy ourselves in the tournament, as we manage to travel all over the world to play basketball, and see the host team's countries and culture." Says Jorge Sarabia, Beasts guard. "But that doesn't mean we have to play sloppily at the tournament, we don't want to let our fans down."

Jubas Beasts is still active in the Philippine cup, which makes their game schedule crowded. But, this is not the case for them.

"We enjoy playing games, whether they are local teams or from other countries. It makes us learn to recognize different plays and defenses and is vital to our team." says Beasts sharpshooter Liang Wai Cheng.

After taking a free ride in the first round with a bye, Air 21 Express managed to scrape a win in the second round, by beating the Portuguese powerhouse Santarém Lions. aside from Ruel Garvez's 21 point, 8 rebound production, Air 21 managed to have 4 other players with double-digit points and rebounds.

"it's great to see Air 21 players playing smoothly as a team, 'cause they're fun to watch. You never know who to defend or watch." says one Air 21 Express fan. "And that was shown in their BBB match."

Air 21's next opponents is the Scottish champions Scream Team, A team who also screams "Team!" on offense.

"They have good calibers for a team, they are more of role players than stars. This game will be interesting to watch." says Air 21's center Luke Cepeda.

Blazing through the top

Trailblazers United crashed into the PAL Arena to face off the hosts team Polydozel. It is the first meeting of these two teams. Team Captains Ubaldo Nudalo (Trailblazers) and Hernando Nellas (Polydozel) squared off for the first time in the league.

Despite Nellas' experience, Nudalo forced him to bow down and watch the Trailblazers blaze into their fifth victory with the score 106-88.

Nudalo scored 34 points, missing 6 out of 19 shots, 23 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and a three. He also limited the Power forward's shots to 3 of 21 overall (Nellas, Gotardo).

Mervyn Jamora, on the other hand, tried to rally up the game with his 26 point, 6 rebounds, 4 steal performance, but they simply couldn't catch up.

One notable highlight of the game is in the first quarter, where the Blazers managed to maim the home team's defense, thus limiting their first quarter score to 5 points (compared to the first quarter score of the Blazers, 22).

The next three quarters were different, though. As team Polydozel managed to answer back all shots by the Blazers, tieing their 2nd and 3rd quarter scores.

...but the lead was still in there... They couldn't get the lead to drop.

"There was this time where we would open up four to six point runs... they just simply answer it." says Hipolito Guarnes, who garnered up 14 points in 18 minutes.

The TrailBlazers' will travel to face Negros Slashers this coming Tuesday. Predictions are out and the Slashers' odds are stacked up. Even though they have the home court advantage, the TrailBlazers are predicted favorites to win the event.

Nudalo hurt in National Team scrimmage

Ubaldo Nudalo was called on by the national team and played 9 minutes in the scrimmage game against the Indonesian National Team, held at the Ubaldo Nudalo Stadium, Philippines. He was injured by a collision on another player.

"He's fine, but we need to sit him out of the game just to be safe." says the National Team doctor.

Nudalo scored 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist... not bad for playing 9 minutes.

Uci Guiterez scored 46 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, with 6 of 13 on the 3-point range. Indonesia's point guard Djohan had 25 points, 8 assist and 6 three-pointers as well.

Jhoaden Nordista answered back for 36 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, with 2 steals. Noe Roxas had 16 points and shot 7 of 20 on the field.

Five players from the Philippine team scored in double digits, totalling in 84 points. While Indonesia only had three players, totalling to 83 points.

"All throughout the game it was dead even." says Katchafire Collie, head coach of the National Team. "Shots go back and forth... so we decided to leave them behind in the second half by pushing the ball more aggressively."

"Nudalo's injury reminded the rest of the team to push further. Even though it's a scrimmage game, the country's pride is at stake." Says Wilhelm Carillo. "We couldn't afford a loss in the national level, not even in the scrimmages.

Slowly But Surely

Manila, Philippines - The team finally lets go of Charles Matthew Jagunap, Florencio Handog, and Jules Trespeses. Jagunap, most known for his 62-point performance in the Season 4 match between CPP-NPA and Celestial Fury, has been sent to another team which lacks some back-court offense.

New imports Hector Ismodes, Pablo Javier Carrascosa, Francois Gomes, and Simeone Cassani have been brought in by management in hopes of strengthening its front court and providing more offensive flow.

"We are a very young team, and we will continue to grow, that's for sure", said trainer Salvador Ybarra. Though management has just been aiming at fighting for 5th place or even fight just for relegation, with the way the team has been improving in such a short span of time, it is not inconceivable to think that they can make the playoffs.

After defeating Celestial Fury 103-101 (4623322), next up for CPP-NPA is powerhouse RED ROBINS.

"We will be ready for them, and we hope that our strategy will be enough to take home the win. This will be definitely be a confidence booster for us if we are able to steal this win away from them at their home court," said Coach Dante.

Match will be on June 10 6pm, at the RED ROBINS arena.

Nolie Corneja for sale

rumors are spreading around the association that Nolie Corneja, perennial small forward for team Polydozel, is currently for sale, as said by sources. There is no confirmation as of yet but sources said that the transfer list committee submitted a fax on the player for sale.

Sudden moves by team Polydozel always come ahead of announcement, like the recent firing of veteran Gervil Tidalgo.

team Polydozel are making some early moves, if this Corneja issue is confirmed, before the All-Star Break. And it seems that they are getting some key players in preparations for the upcoming playoffs, in which, team Polydozel, in a surprise run, might be participating in.

"With their current record (5-4, tied with Devil Bats Deimon in the Big 8 conference), and their form and run in the season, team Polydozel already assured a spot in the playoffs and I think they are ready to spend big on acquiring players, even if it is on another country, despite having their motives as a team who supports local talent." Says analyst Quinito Henson. "It will be a big move for team Polydozel to acquire players because I think they really have a good chance in making it to the coveted title."

"I think they're not aiming just for a safe spot in the league, but they're aiming directly at the bullseye... and that's the top league top spot." says Ed Picson. "Based on their potential, they are not too far in getting it, but it's still a doubt."

If this Nolie Corneja transfer is confirmed, then all these comments may be one level higher to rule speculation. As putting a seasoned veteran into the transfer list enables the team to have more funds to purchase higher quality players.

As for now, we just have to wait for sudden announcements.

Corneja transfer confirmed after high-game win

BB Sports Network had the privilege to talk with team member Nolie Corneja after the press conference regarding his future at the team. It has now been confirmed at the press conference that Nolie Corneja is indeed for sale and is being bid currently by an Italian team.

Corneja had to discuss to BB Sports Network that this transfer is on to his own judgment and is being supported by the team.

"It's finally come to this, to have to expand my horizons and make some decisions." the star forward said. "I've always been wanting to surpass my limits, and time is of the essence. It will be soon that i would be out of peak."

He also had statements about his loyalty to the club.

"I can never repay what team Polydozel gave me. They trusted me up to my own ability and I delivered, and now, I can never get to where I am now, if it wasn't for this team. I may never get to my dream if it wasn't for them."

As he was asked about the upcoming transfer.

"As of now, they've updated the transfer bids, and there's one coming from the Italian league... That's big!" says Corneja. "Italian leagues, even at lower levels, has always been so competitive and dedicated. It is a perfect opportunity to display my talent and to surpass it."

He was right, it was always never a right time to unleash the talent, and with Corneja's age, it couldn't come out in a better time. Scoring 12.5 points per game on his championship rally in their first season before his season ending injury (Season 3), Corneja came back in the playoffs, and he managed to carry team Polydozel on to the first championship in their first season. Surpassing the critics' predictions, however, seems to be their hobby.

In Season 4, Corneja became the team's number 1 scorer. Playing the full 22 games and putting up 16.1 points per game on almost 40% shooting. Redefining the term "team play", Corneja is the perfect fit on the unique team Polydozel offense, earning another championship after their promotion. Team Polydozel reached the Philippines Premier League after 2 seasons, where Corneja became the cornerstone.

In their current run at the PPL, Corneja became the team's backup forward, after the sudden boom of talent by their season 4 rookie Hipolito Guarnes, and one the league's top 6th man, scoring 9 points per 19 minutes a game, on 9 occasions.

This move may benefit both ways, as with Corneja playing abroad, the ever so crowded SF position will be weighted lightly, up-and-comer Herminio Cojuangco, and team Polydozel's number 1 scorer Hipolito Guarnes will be forced to display their unlimited potential in the PPL, in preparation for next year's NT.

"Guarnes can never be better with the current lineup, so I was willing to take up my spot to give him more time, and giving him to exploit all the talent in him." says Corneja. "...just to make him feel to what I've done before with the team... he needs it to become better.

This marks the game against Rynzer Force as his last with team Polydozel. And his first on a new chapter in his life.

RED ROBINS rout CPP-NPA 107-75

Manila, Philippines - It was blowout city in the RED ROBINS' arena. CPP-NPA could not put up a rally, and the RED ROBINS exploited the lack of experience of their opponents.

"We just had no answer to the RED ROBINS' offense. They were getting the shots they wanted. We played terribly", said by team captain Erickson Catilogo. It was definitely a game which would have helped team CPP-NPA raise their confidence levels to a higher level if they bring home a win.

"We had the right offense against their defense. But we just couldn't come up with the shots. We underestimated their ball-handling by pressuring them Full-court", said Coach Dante. Newly acquired Hector Ismodes struggled against RED ROBINS stars Ken Inocencio and Joie Taytay. Both had phenomenal performances.

High point man for the RED ROBINS was point guard Rocky Ngo with 19 points on 9-14 shooting. The RED ROBINS shot 55% from the field, mostly getting easy points from the inside.

"We will have our revenge. Ilalabas nalang namin sa Negros Slashers", joked by rookie Ananias Villon.

Next up for the RED ROBINS are the Sta. Lucia Realtors.

Defense pays off big time

Asides from their offensive power consisting of Hipolito Guarnes, Mervyn Jamora, and Melencio Tanas, team Polydozel can be also prided with their supreme defense. Even those offensive threats, can carry a prominent defensive assignment.

And the primary core of their defense, is the front-court main man Simeon Tongson.

Asides from his supreme 27 rebound performance against the Wandsworth Demons, and also his record breaking 10 steals performance in Season 4 against Jaguarz!!!, Tongson again broke his personal and league record when he produced 11 steals against Rynzer Force when they beat the Home team by the score 93-79 last night in the Rynzer Force Coliseum.

Tongson made an inspiring performance. despite having only 4 points, Tongson managed to get a double-double with 13 rebounds, along with his steals. Tongson's sudden shift from a low post threat, into a defensive specialist puzzled Rynzer Force into giving away a victory.

"Tongson is a great contributor for our team." says the team coach. "He was always a threat for offense and he knew that, so he managed to shift his focus to defense instead, where we always thought that that is his comfort zone."

Along with his steals and rebounds, he also had 4 assists, and 2 blocks.

"He never had any thought that offense is his strength." Says the team trainer Cristobal Key. "It was defense that his inner strength will flow out to."

Mervyn Jamora provided the offense, scoring 29 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in 43 minutes, scoring 14 in the first quarter alone. Juppert Zamora exploded for 26 points.

"The guards were inspired and they provided the assistance for the win." added by the coach.

After their win against the Negros Slashers, team Polydozel seem pumped up.

"I guess we really want to win, rather than losing." says Hipolito Guarnes, who was defended heavily and produced 12 points, and 6 rebounds.

Nolie Corneja, considering his last game wearing a Polydozel jersey, scored 2 points in 12 minutes.

"I never thought that this is my moment." says Cornja, who didn't seem to be disappointed. "we come up with a win, whether i scored or not, I'm happy."

As of this time, Corneja never rested and he is on his way to play for an Italian team in division IV.

Simeon Tongson had a piece of his mind regarding Corneja's future at his new club, hours before their bon voyage/game win celebration.

"He backed the team up when we were at the bottom leagues, I think there's no difference when another team needs his help." says Tongson.
