From the rules:

DMI: The overall player index, DMI, gives a very rough indication of how good your player is. This is a good way to check that your player is getting training, but is otherwise a lot less meaningful than it first appears. Be warned!

I understand that, but to have such wild fluctuations in a value that is meaningless... again, what is the point in having it in the game? I had a guy go from 30,700 to 14,600. That's 16,100 meaningless points. If there is no way to narrow the focus of the DMI and get a more educated guess on your player's overall index, again I ask... what's the point in having it in the game?

We are supposed to be pro teams, not the YMCA youth club. I would think that my GM and coaches would have a better idea of my player's overall abilities.

It's mainly, like the rules state, to reassure teams that training is occuring.

I agree with Flagg. Maybe a good question to ask is how does a coach determine the right player to put on the floor during the course of a game? Does the coach even look at the DMI at all? I would hope not.

No, the GE does not even sniff DMI, much less use it.

Take it for what it's worth.

It's not particularly hurting anyone to have it in the game.

In my case, that would mean my players got ALOT worse from training. Not good. I guess I should just start treating it like it should: meaningless. Thanks JuicePats!

Honestly, for an experienced player, that's the best way to think about it.

no its not. last week 30k DMI form: strong => this week: 20k, Strong
hmmmm his sublevel might have dropped

for most players nothing is unknown in this formula. Only if player receives training, DMI would increase slightly, even if the form is exactly the same as the week before. Since u know which players u train, it is getting very easy after a while to interpret the DMI.
