i dont have any proof, but by logic, drawing foul could be tied into experience and driving. Driving is obvious since the more you drive and get banged up in the paint, the more fouls you are likely to draw from opponents. I say experience because supposedly experience allows a player to take smart shots and play better. A lot of the time (if you watch NBA), when a defender commits to a pump fake, a shooting foul is inevitable as long as you toss your hands in the air to act like you are shooting and make body contact. (Kobe is really good at this) An unexperienced player might not take advantage of the commitment from the defender.

I think a foul drawing skill is not concrete enough to be a skill by itself.

IN Us we also look at how fouls are drawn.

Its called FTA .

so a dude getting three freethorws, was fouled at a 3 pointer, one 2 pointer and a bonus free throw, or 3 bonus free throws :) or have you a way to tell how often he got fouled?

Getting a foul that doesn't get you to the line just disrupts your offense. Its better to have the ball flowing and offence moving in most cases than to have the ball taken out again.

If the defensiv player have more fouls, it disrupt their defense and not much your offense - especially when he have a little bit foul trouble or brings you close to the bonus free throws.

To me a true sportsman doesn't try to mess around wtih the rules, he tries to win within the rules. Trying to get the ref to believe your opponent fouled you is kinda annoying, and boring. Its a strategy, but as a fan if I wanted to see that kind of stuff I'd watch pro-wrestling or slapstick comedy.

you really say, that you don't like player who make an defensiv stop in drawing an offensiv foul? Or make a tactical foul to regain defensiv position? Basketball had rules about fouling, because they are part of the game and really happen as a result of good playing ;)

Sounds like a good suggestion, it could really help teams know who is drawing fouls.

Just in relation to this suggestion.

I few weeks back i did some statistical analysis of whether there was a link between a players FT skill and his frequency that he goes to the line ie: ability to draw shooting fouls. which is what i believe the original suggestion was about. Having a stat which shows how many fouls drawn by that player.

Anyways, here is the forum link

(186228.1)

In summary, i did statistical analysis of the skill level related to FT frequency and found minimal correlation. Simmilarly, i also incorporated other stats, like experience etc, and found minimal correlation.

Essentially, i found no correlation between skill and a players frequency to go the line ie: Draw fouls.

Therefore, having a statistic like this, whilst it would be nice and I can see why they have it in real life basketball, because in real life basketball, you do have players that are better at drawing fouls than others, but my conclusion was that in the BuzzerBeater game, there is no such ability or skill which contributes to the frequency which players get fouled, and as such, this stat would be meaningless. Sorry!... nice suggestion though!
