I primarily run patient, and I agree on the damage limitation argument, but for a slightly different reason. Compared to the rest of my league, my defense is much stronger, while my offense is similar to weaker teams and below the other top teams. I run patient to make sure my shots count, while holding them down defensively. As a result, I usually win low scoring games.

Check out my games. In my first game, a loss to Powell Wolves, my star player took dozens of shots. This was because I sat most of my best players to make a run at the cup. After that, I still ran Patient, and things have been much more balanced.

i personally didn't have good experience with it, but I strongly disagree that it is the worst offense.

There is actually no "worst offense". It all depends on your team style.

Is there any reason to play Patient if you have a well balanced team with players of relatively equall class? (gameshape was proficient vs mediocre, but still...)

i'm curious, what happen when the only godd offensive players are your big men? would they score all the points? and does it effect the inside scoring ratings when your best scorer is a big man?

The SG still chucks the shots, which is why the offense is terrible.
