I would draft him, being in D.IV. So yeah. Part of the problem with going after High potential, in our divisions, is that towards the end they get so expensive. To train him to a 40-60K PF, sure.

If you manage on getting him, I'd focus on his ID first. I'd also ignore rebounding for now, since that shoots up his salary.

3 star is star/allstar level for potential. That isn't the holy grail but you're likely still getting a very solid prospect at 18 years old.

You can train a star potential player into a $20-30000 player and an allstar into a $40-60000 player. Now if he only had 1-2 star potential, that would really suck.

sometimes some stats can give an indication of a lacking of skill.

eg: 7 turnovers, or 1-8 FT shooting. these m ight indicate low handling/passing or Free throw.

Also, if you have say a 6'2 C, his box score may also give an indication to his actual abilities that are causing him to classified as a centre.

eg: 6'2 C, who gets 13 rebounds, is probably high in rebounding.

its only ever an indication though and shouldnt be read as gospel.

I had the same dilemma as you, as I was contemplating drafting a 5 star A+ with low potential. He turned up at the start of the season like this:

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: mediocre Handling: respectable
Driving: inept Passing: awful
Inside Shot: respectable Inside Def.: respectable
Rebounding: mediocre Shot Blocking: inept
Stamina: average Free Throw: strong

Now more than half season into it...
