Thats basically what I told him to do because thats what I did and it worked quite well, but then the bigshots came and blasted my idea to mars.

Ok, 300k + four $ bonuses= 500k ( after a month.) Wait to do anything! Let yourself grow $ If you do that you'll be about 650-700k. Got it. Wait till the offseason. YOu could get 2 or maybe even 3 big guys with 15-20k. Build your arena. THen, at the snap of the fingers, you'll be a contender.

Great advice,here's a +1,I might add the importance of getting guard trainees,and if your going to have a big men themed team you can train guards faster and get more money when you sell them enabling you to get more bigs.

Why get three 15-20k big men when you can promote out of V with guys around 8k salaries? Heck, I only had one 20k player while I was in IV and got out of that just fine.

Whether you buy a seat in the arena today or in four seasons it will cost you the same amount, but the sooner you buy it, the sooner it starts paying you back. It is highly unlikely that the 15-20k big man a new team acquires will ever be sold for the same amount again, and it'll cost the additional salary to pay him each week.

It really comes down to what your goals are. If the plan is just to get out of V, that's fine, but if the goal is to progress further than that, it's crucial to remember that you can only advance as far as your infrastructure will support. Early seasons should be heavily focused on building the arena and on creating the trainees that become your future core of your team, and then what is left over can be spent wisely on acquiring relatively cheap, low-salaried players who are well rounded enough to perform nicely.

Yup, just looked at hs team. He has Andres Chavez as his best trainee. Oh, and I guess 1 15-20k man, and then get 9-14k guys. But they still have to be somewhat awesome. But he has to get Chavez trained. I think he could carry that team. What do you think, hrudey and Jack?

Chavez is 31. There is simply no reason at all for a new team to be intentionally training a 31 year old.

Without knowing the skills necessarily, it looks likely that Connell is the best person on his roster who's not on the TL to train. He's not looking like he'll be a great player, but you can make a pretty decent guard with star potential who can start for a while and be a serviceable backup later on. Assuming the guys on the TL sell or are relisted until they do, he's really the only player under 25 who has a long-term future on the team, so after Connell, I suppose for the rest of the year he'd do best to just pick whatever guy seems like he'll be the most serviceable player for the next season or two and train him as the other primary trainee.

Obviously after the draft would be the ideal time to look for new trainees (and hopefully at least one would come through the draft itself).

hugh, thought I could've swore it was 21.......................Well, theres always the draft though (I've already had bad luck, but maybe I'll get DUMB LUCK and draft a nice PF or someone.

It happens to all of us.

With that said, I wouldn't consider 21 as a good age to *start* a trainee, either. Training a 21-year-old is fine if he's been trained up to that point, or obviously if that's all you've got. But enough 18 and 19 year olds are dumped on the market after the draft that it just doesn't make sense to train a guy from scratch who is 21.

I'll take advice from both of you I recommend 1 well trained superstar veteran and a couple 18-19yr old, thats what I did and its working well I have one 19yr old HOF potential PG/SG thats coming along nicely and 1 star potential PG already trained well in the guard skills.

Well I hope I get a decent guy from the draft, because I am only keeping 1-2 at the most. I'll be lucky to get three good guys. (to make $$$) Well, I got a cheap good player, Cheap good player,a good potential guy, and 2 more,....and more!! Hope to see the draft. I on the other hand, will hire 2 temp reporters to cover the draft. (doing my whole league) I'll be covering all the breaking news................hey, are managers allowed on the site during the draft?
