MVP Votes (Round 3)

Game 1: Home Axis v Baxter Bogans (55372913)

Well, the Bogans managed to leave the bar and board the bus this week. Despite the slow offense of Home Axis, the Bogans were too hard to stop inside with Tesone and Harrower just too good. Sure, Monroy did admirably against Harrower and Jesic helped out from the point but this game was decided in the paint. The Bogans eeking out an 8 point win.

3 votes: J. Tesone (BAX) (C) 26 pts, 19 rbs in 39 min 15.0 rating
2 votes: S. Harrower (BAX) (PF) 21 pts, 10 rbs, 3asts, 3 blks 13.0 rating
1 vote: I. Jesic (HA) (PG) 23 pts, 8 asts, 6 rbds 12.5 rating

Special mention to Monroy who had 20 pts, 15 rbs (8OR) in 48 mins. Only 5 Tos cost him the vote.

Game 2: Los Coolfreakz El’ Ninios v shepparton shooters (55372914)

While the Coolfreakz have an evenly balanced team they were no match for the shooters who won every quarter and keeping the Coolfreakz to single digit scores in two of the four quarters. The two big men, V-thrush and X-Factor were once again unstoppable combining for 51 of the 84 points scored by the shooters. A comfortable 37 point win for Ezy’s lot.

3 votes: X. Weipeng (SHE) (C) 25 pts, 19 rbs 14.5 rating
2 votes: J. Viojan (SHE) (PF) 26 pts, 19 rbs (8OR) 15.0 rating (but 6 TOs!)
1 vote: A. Dougan (LOS) (SF) 15 pts, 4 rbs 9.0 rating

Game 3: Vios Violationers v Geelong Vipers (55372917)

The Vipers with another sound win, this time over the Violationers. The Vipers won every quarter to cruise to a 29 point win. Should be a great contest between the Vipers and the Donkeys next Friday.

3 votes: H. Bertens (GEE) (PG) 29 pts, 8 asts 16.5 rating
2 votes: R. Sibley (VIO) (C) 18 pts (7/14 FG%), 10 rbs 14.0 rating
1 vote: J. Norman (GEE) (SG) 18 pts 14.0 rating (had a weaker opponent so only gets the 1)

Special mention: there were a few contributors who could have picked up votes. S. Brkljac and Fernandez combined to stop the Vios’s big man, Sibley; and the Vipers’s SF, Diez de Escoron was perfect from the field and had a solid 10 pts and 10 rbs for 29 minutes)

Game 4: Whompas Donkeys v TeamAkuma (55372918)

Game of the round this encounter. Both teams went inside and despite another great game from the legend that is Smeltz, the Donkeys, through Vino and Santana held firm winning by 12 points.

3 votes: K. Smeltz (TA) (C) 30 pts (13/21 FG%), 11 rbs 16.0 rating
2 votes: F. Vino (WHO) (C) 19 pts (8/17 FG%), 13 rbs (4OR) 13.5 rating
1 vote: C. Abimbola (TA) (SG) 21 pts (10/23FG%) 16.5 rating

Game 5: Moorditj Magick v Western Titans (55372915)

Well, the Titan juggernaut rolled on and remains undefeated after sweeping aside the Magick. The scoreline (97-82) flattered the Magick who only managed to regain some credibility in the final quarter. The 15 point win means the Titans remain undefeated in the East.

3 votes: R. B. Filho (WES) (PF) 23 pts, 17 rbs (5OR) and 5 asts 17.0 rating
2 votes: U. Samdup (WES) (C) 21 pts (10/16FG%), 8 rbs 15.0 rating
1 vote: J. Dogan (MGK) (SG) 34 pts, 7 rbs, 4 asts 15.0 rating

Game 6: JW City Bulls v UWA Panthers (55372916)

A painful encounter that saw the Bulls repeatedly drive their horns into a very un-sexy Panther outfit. Outgunned in all positions, this turned ugly quick as the Bulls remained atop of the ladder in the East with a 64 point win.

3 votes: J. Vulcan (JW) (PG) 30 pts (12/18 FG% and 2/3 3FG%) and 5 steals 16.0 rating
2 votes: A. Dayneko (JW) (PF) 19 pts, 16 rbs (7OR) in 27 mins 18.5 rating (inferior opponent)
1 vote: A. Pogliaghi (JW) (C) 11 pts, 12 rbs in 28 mins 16.0 rating

MVP Votes (Round4)

PART A

Game 1: Home Axis v Shepparton shooters (55372919)

Home Axis tried hard to stop the shooter juggernaut, particularly Viojan and Weipeng who have done so much damage this season. It didn’t happen. A 30 point second quarter broke the Axis’ back and despite winning the fourth, the shooters were too strong winning by 18 points.

3 votes: J. Viojan (SHE) 26 pts, 16 rb, 5 asts, 3 blks 14.5 rating
2 votes: X. Weipeng (SHE) 18 pts, 23 rb (8OR) 13.0 rating
1 vote: F. Medina Esquivel (HAX) 16 pts, 15 rb 15.0 rating

Game 2: Los Coolfreakz El’ Ninios v JW City Bulls (55372921)

Well, Mr Alvarez tried to slow the unbeatable Bulls down with a Patient offense but failed badly. Nothing was going to stop the Bulls claiming their fourth straight win to remain atop of the ladder in the East. An ugly game that saw the Coolfreakz held to single digit scores in three of the four quarters as they were hammered by 57 points.

3 votes: A. Dayneko (JW) 20 pts, 12 reb in 23 minutes! 19.0 rating
2 votes: A. Pogliaghi (JW) 14 pts, 12 rb (6OR) 17.0 rating
1 vote: J. Corica (JW) 14 pts, 3 rb, 3 asts 16.5 rating

NOTE: I know 23 minutes isn’t probably long enough on court to warrant getting votes but that performance was too good not to.

Game 3: Geelong Vipers v Whompas Donkeys (55372924)

The Vipers went to sleep in the third and lost the game there and then as the Donkeys outscored them 32-14. The Donkeys went inside and Vino, once again, didn’t disappoint. Despite Bertens shooting well for the Vipers, the Donkeys were too strong winning by 18 (the difference in the third).

3 votes: F. Vino (WHO) 27 pts, 12 rbs, 4 asts 15.0 rating
2 votes: H. Bertens (GEE) 36 pts, 4 rb 16.0 rating
1 vote: I. Santana (WHO) 10 pts, 13 rbs, 5 asts 14.0 rating (only just gets the 1 vote over Norman)

PART B

Game 4: Western Titans v Baxter Bogans (55372920)

The Titans went with a Motion offense in this one to exploit Filho’s range and the range of his guards. It worked. The Titans went 10/20 from downtown, Filho hitting 2/3. Harrower did a great job defending Filho but…it just wasn’t good enough as the Titan piled on 30 points. However, equally impressive, and beginning to stamp his authority in every game he plays, was Tesone, the Bogans big man. His shooting was so good that the great Udi fouled out and replacement C, Ciciskinas, notched up 4 fouls in 11 minutes! Yet despite Tesone’s MVP performance, the Bogans lost by 18.

3 votes: J. Tesone (BAX) 29 pts (10/12 FG%), 24 rb (9OR) in 38 minutes! 16.5 rating
2 votes: B. Filho (WES) 30 pts, 12 reb 17.0 rating
1 vote: R. Muggleton (WES) 22 pts (4/5 3FG%), 5 reb, 3 asts 14.0 rating

NOTE: Despite an excellent performance by Filho, and although Bogans were the losers, Tesone’s performance in 38 minutes was sizzling. That’s why he got the 3 votes.

Game 5: Vios Violationers v Moorditj Magick (55372922)

It was an inside v outside contest with the votes going in that manner. For the Violationers, Sibley was once again too strong inside. In fact, he was so strong in the paint that 2 Magick men fouled out against him in a total of 38 minutes. For the Magick, it was the dynamic duo once again doing the bulk of scoring and keeping their team in it. In the end the Violationers had too many avenues to score, winning by 12 points.

3 votes: R. Sibley (VIO) 39 pts, 20 reb (8OR) 15.5 rating
2 votes: M. Rodriguez (MGK) 37 pts (14/27 FG%) (6/12 3FG%) 15.5 rating
1 vote: J. Dogan (MGK) 34 pts (13/27 FG%) (7/15 3FG%) 14.5 rating

Game 6: TeamAkuma v UWA Panthers (55372923)

Annihilation! There is no other way to describe TeamAkuma’s performance. After the 33-14 first quarter score in favour of TeamAkuma, Brooksy must have thought it couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. Every quarter was the same: TeamAkuma scored heavily while keeping the Panthers to very low scores. In the end, a 71 point annihilation.

3 votes: C. Abimbola (TAK) 17 pts (7/10 FG%) (2/3 3FG%), 5 asts, 3 reb 16.5 rating
2 votes: A. Maclean (TAK) 20 pts, 7 asts, 4 reb 16.0 rating
1 vote: D. Vargas (TAK) 22 pts, 14 reb 13.5 rating

MVP Votes (Round 5)

PART A

Game 1: Home Axis v Western Titans [match=55372925 ]

This game was surprisingly close. Yes, Hax went with a Patient offense but the Titans were a little off tonight. Titan duo, Filho and Samdup shot 4/13 and 5/14 respectively from the field while Hax’s big man, Esquivel shot 12/19 to be the game’s high scorer. The game itself was a close encounter other than the Titans outscoring the Axis in the second by 12 points. In the end it was a comfortable but less than impressive 15 point win by the Titans.

3 votes: F. M. Esquivel (HAX) 28 pts, 13 reb 13.5 rating
2 votes: B. Filho (WES) 11 pts, 12 reb, 2 blks 16.0 rating
1 vote: M. Gaggini (WES) 13 pts, 4 reb 14.5 rating

Note: Shav didn’t pick up any votes on account of his scrub opponent.

Game 2: Los Coolfreakz El’ Ninios v TeamAkuma (55372928)

This is becoming a great learning experience for the Coolfreakz’s roster in the East this season as it once again found itself dominated. TeamAkuma had a 50 point lead going into the fourth before the Coolfreak regained some respect by winning the final quarter. Although the Coolfreak tried a Patient offense to slow TeamAkuma’s Run and Gun, TeamAkuma secured a comfortable 46 point win.

3 votes: C. Abimbola (TAK) 17 pts (50% FG / 75% 3FG) 17.0 rating
2 votes: A. Maclean (TAK) 22 pts, 4 asts 16.0 rating
1 vote: D. Vargas (TAK) 13 pts, 14 reb 13.0 rating

Game 3: Baxter Bogans v Vios Violationers (55372927)

This was a great game that saw both teams go inside. Trikster, however, tried the ‘broken’ 2-3 which didn’t seem all that broken at all as his bigs, Tesone and Harrower, defended the paint admirable and racked up 49 points between them. The Bogans secured 1st and 2nd quarter wins before the Violationers managed a mini fight back which was quelled in the fourth as the Bogans held on for a 12 point win.

3 votes: J. Tesone (BAX) 23 pts (10/12 FG%), 16 reb IN 28 MINUTES! 17.0 rating (a monster performance!)
2 votes: R. Sibley (VIO) 23 pts, 12 reb, 5 stls 15.5 rating
1 vote: S. Harrower (BAX) 26 pts, 13 reb 14.5 rating

MVP Votes (Round 5)

PART B

Game 4: JW City Bulls v Shepparton shooters (55372926)

Ezy’s plan was simple: Get the ball to the V-Thrush. Despite this usually secure tactic, especially given the support of a great Aussie PF in Weipeng, the shooters couldn’t stop the Bulls’ outside shooting from a Motion offense. In the end, the Bulls with a very comfortable 26 point win.

3 votes: J. Vulcan (JW) 17 pts, 3 reb, 3 asts, 3 stls, 3 blks 15.0 rating
2 votes: X. Weipeng (SHE) 26 pts, 19 reb (5OR) 13.5 rating
1 vote: J. Viojan (SHE) 28 pts, 15 reb (6OR) 12.5 rating

NOTE: I had to look at direct opponents to sort the votes out in this game. Corica for the Bulls could have got votes except he had a weaker opponent compared to Weipeng and Viojan.

Game 5: Whompas Donkeys v Moorditj Magick (55372929)

An up-tempo game which saw the much fancied Donkeys go into the second quarter 2 points down. The Donkeys
responded with stronger defense to hold the Magick at bay. They did the same in the third before the Magick rallied in the fourth---on the back of Hot Rod’s sublime scoring (new Scoring Leader)---to scare the Donkeys and almost steal the win. The Donkeys with a 4 point win in the game of the round in the East.

3 votes: M. Rodriguez (MGK) 47 pts, 5 reb in 45 mins 16.0 rating
2 votes: C. Eusala (WHO) 18 pts, 7 reb as SF in 28 mins 12.5 rating
1 vote: N. O’Driscoll (WHO) 19 pts, 7 reb 11.0 rating

Game 6: Geelong Vipers v UWA Panthers (55372930)

A strong performance by the Vipers in this encounter. Although Brooksy went with a 3-2 to stop the Vipers’ Run and Gun, they failed to stop the Vipers’ guards shooting well. This one was all over at the final change with the Vipers banking a solid 36 point win.

3 votes: H. Bertens (GEE) 31 pts, 3 asts, 15.5 rating
2 votes: B. Greger (GEE) 25 pts, 4 reb, 3 asts 13.0 rating
1 vote: J. Norman (GEE) 16 pts, 5 asts, 12.5 rating

Sorry to be picky but they are 2/3 of your front court. Your back court is your guards who are mostly old foreigners.

Hahah indeed,
I got an Aussie backcourt, wouldn't be close to the best Aussie backcourt but probably up there amongst the eastern conference!
I reckon Dayneko was hard done by, he did an awesome defensive job against the twin towers from the shooters! Nevertheless stats and numbers usually get most of the attention, just happy with the win haha
Awesome job with the MVP write ups Matty!!
