I kinda understand the frustrations about not announcing this change explicitly before hand, but I'll try to explain the combination of reasons why we didn't wait for another season.
The change doesn't come completely out of the blue. Since the season 24 news item we already mentioned we would be monitoring the effects of the SB change and that we might make any additional change if required. In this post
(244443.27) I already mentioned we were also considering not only game engine effects, but also possible salary changes. Indeed, we never explicitly said we would make this particular change, but it's certainly one that should not have you completely caught offguard. The whole of season 24 we have still seen lots of discussion about the LI dominance, clearly there was a lot of doubt in the community if the change was sufficient of which one of the reasons is of course the lack of well trained shot blockers in game.
Now, when it comes to larger changes we indeed have always stuck to the planning argument; announce it at least a season in advance. You will see some of these announcements this season as well. And yes, for this salary adjustment we also discussed whether it would be better to just announce it for season 26 or apply it right away. Essentially it comes down to this; the change should not bring managers in huge trouble, as it should reduce costs overall (when we would increase overall salary it would be a whole different story) and since the change shouldn't be coming completely out of the blue I believe it's beneficial for the game enough to do it today rather than in 16 or so weeks. So yes, I understand this is not optimal when it comes to long term planning, but it's better to have a windfall than a setback, right? ;)
