I see this all the time ,and I can't understand this.What's up with new managers buying old players who are in need of a wheelchair.Start with the basics of this game and please start training 18/19 year old players ,read the manual how it's suppose to done ,or read the forum,or find a mentor who will explain to you what should do.
What you should do is sell or throw out all the old men,their salary is way to high for you right now.And please keep your trainees even if there more then 3 doesn't matter you can do 2 position training for now.

I have to have of a balance if trainees, it obviously won't workout if I have 10 18 yr olds. So I'm making all my guards old and training only my big men and forwards. I understand what it means to have trainees and that I don't need a ton of old guys. I only have 3 guys that are old the rest are young trainees , and I'm still not done solidifying my roster.

I used to have a roster just full of young trainees and that was a nightmare because of how slow they all would take to train. So I'm getting older guys to balance the number if trainees. So I have a solid few groups of players

Read this guide on BB economics. It will help you plan your team out.

Since you are lucky enough to land in Div IV, you have the luxury of earning more money than you normally would.

Concentrate on the arena and your draft. If you put in 20,000 a week you should probably find the best pick available for this season. Then you can probably plan your training around that guy for a full season.

As for if you should stay in Div IV or relagate to Div V that is totally up to you. If I were in your shoes I'd probably opt to stay in Div IV and try to get good draft picks until I had a good enough arena size to try to win the title.

Oke Yesterday evening ,it was a bit to late for me to give you some good advice:).
- first thing you should is to make a good plan what kind of players you wanna train.
I would start with training Guards,for just 1 reason,their salary does not go up that fast,if you train bigs on ID ,IS and REB,their salary will rise much more.
That player Hiid is a pretty good trainee nice skills ,although he is 19 and has some good potential.
But anyway find 3 good trainees ,and start training them and it will take a lot time maybe 4/5 seasons.
And stick to the plan ,because you will lose many games,but those 3 trainees will be your cornerstones for your starting line up in the future.Meanwhile expand your arena slowly ,for SF /PF and C just players with low salary,so you can start saving money.After 1 season of training your trainees wil become much better,and you have some money to buy a better player to fill in the holes that you have on your roster ,and please don't buy an old player cause he will lose skills and he wont be a good player for a long time,try do buy player age range between 25 -29,those players (they will be more expensive I know) will be very useful for a long period of time,and if they are not good enough anymore you can sell them much better then oldies.Just remember BB is a game for managers who will take the time to build up slowly a winning team,if you want to do it in a hurry ,you will be running against a wall,and that hurts:)

Yeah in hindsight I probably should've trained guards , but ive been really unstable about my trainees I started with forward trainees then sold them all to get big man trainees so right now I'm kinda trying to avoid starting over again. This season's draft I'm looking to draft a big name forward or guard .
If I did start over again to train guards I could do that but I'd have to start collecting my guards quickly , I'd probably sell Erik Hiid because although he is a fantastic talent I probably won't spend that much time on him to reach that potential. And if I sell him I can definitley buy some really good pro docent guard trainees

Well to be honest with you ,I dont see way out ,you are very close to bankruptcy and you have to do something major to avoid this.
But maybe iam wrong here ,I don't know.

There isn't really anything wrong with buying old veterans as a new manager. When you're new, you're going to make a lot of transfer moves, so you're not going to use the old players for too long.

I agree with Ashcroft.

Age matters more as you increase divisions. The higher the salary of the player, the more drop in skill effects the economics of the player. Therefore, an old 20,000 salary player will sometimes hold his value better than an old 90,000 salary player.

Its more important early on to concentrate on the fundamentals of economics than player management.

Such things like adding early and often to the arena and getting good draftees than can lead to advantages in merchandise later on (and overextension tax savings) can be more fruitful than worrying about winning and player management.

Also, money is tighter in lower divisions. This can make it harder to spend on younger starters.

To me the best mix early on is very young trainees with very old starters.

Probably won't like it but the best thing to do long term is to sell/fire players to the salary floor (don't need to keep 10 guys for 2 competitive games a week... heck don't need to manage Game Shape either) and if you relegate oh well. Perhaps keeping trainees and a PG and C since you are training Forwards.

Spend cash on the arena and only on the arena. When you think about spending more than 10k on a player, put that money into seats. Your salary is about as much as mine with 7-8k less seats and I'm only making about 60k in profit not including the Tournament.

TLDR: Burn this season. It never happened. Stack cash, live for tomorrow.
