Gosh, I don't know, it feels like it's been in place for ages. Maybe after Tuck screwed us over? I think then the consensus was we should stay English but preferably someone dropping out of the EBBL for a while to rebuild.

i.e. Wasps is probably the best candidate in II.level but he volunteered to stick with the U21s when none of our up and coming English managerial talent felt they could commit to the role.

I don't remember an actual post, but it comes up every now and then. It came up when I ran for the NT to be re elected. The first time I stood I was in D2, so I was already NT manager by the time I was in the EBBL. It was generally felt at the time that it was fine for me to stand for two reasons. I wasn't a threat to the top teams, and I didn't have an NT player.

That's true - whereas the Ballers have 2 NT players, probably 3 depending on game shape providing the core of a rock solid contender for the EBBL title.

I just feel this candidature is a bad idea, despite some of the harsh language I've used, it's not personal (although I was pretty underwhelmed by Zeus' last stewardship of the NT, it's true).

I just feel that it's a bad idea to put yourself forward for the NT job while you have 3 NT players on board and are clearly lining up for a run at the EBBL title.

On a lesser level, I feel managers should get to the EBBL, win something and then drop out of the EBBL if they want to have a crack with the NT team.

Are you threatened by the fact i'm running for the NT? You seem hell bent on me not getting it when quite frankly we've hardly ever communicated on this game other than when you just wanted to flame my last tenure as NT coach. You seem to be the only EBBL manager who's making the effort to say no EBBL manager should run, so i'm going to take that with a pinch of salt quite frankly. If other managers that i respect on this game come forward and voice that they don't want me to run that's fair play. But a one man show trying to shut me down is not going to happen.

I'm also yet to see another candidate even tick the election box. In that case we'll end up with no one running the NT, sounds good to me

I'm not entirely happy with it either. For one thing its probably best our NT manager only has to concentrate on doing his best for the England team, whereas conceivably you could be fighting for the league and cup double with your team.

We had a decent candidate from Germany who had been good enough to approach us before the election even started and he seemed like a good candidate to me. I felt I made that clear but my opinion was ignored.

I've been NT manager so I know what its like. I never played Fallon but he made the NT after I was gone. Is that significant? I don't know. Did it hurt England that I didn't pick him? No, but I think I was harsher on my own player than on others. Certainly I was more clear about his worth to the NT after I'd quit. So I don't t hink cheating is the issue at all.

Sorry for interrupting this debate. I am the supposed opponent of Zeus,(But since he is a real strong candidate, I decided to go for another country) and I am following this discussion with interest.

You had an agreement that an EBBL manager should not manage the NT, because of the knowledge of the skills ? That sounds a bit weird for me as somebody from outside of british community. First, what a boring life must somebody have to cheat in an online-game (argument of Woody ?) And with the new tool to remove somebody like Tuck (?) from his position, if the the agreement of his work goes below a certain percentage. We in Germany had now for 4 seasons a NT from the 1.division. He won titles, but not because he knows the skills, but because of his team was really good. We had never the idea to think in this direction.

no, that's laughable - I am sincere in my view. I'll see how the vote goes on the EBBL before commenting again as otherwise I think we'll go round in circles.
I note your lack of apology.

Just one point about your last tenure as coach - because as well as not liking your position as an EBBL manager, I have a lot of doubts about your ability and track record.

you were elected on a platform of wanting to run for six seasons and during your first campaign you made a lot of very good points and were a popular winner, I know I voted for you twice.

You didn't really deliver though. You flamed out after four seasons, often going missing towards the end of your tenure and not coping very well with our best players ageing. This is not a good track record given the current NT situation with bigs.

I'm not being mean here - your NT record is this:

Season 31. Ranking started at 37, finished at 40
Season 32. Ranking started at 41, finished 46
Season 33. Ranking started at 45, finished at 50
Season 34. Ranking started at 48, finished at 46

It went down three seasons in a row and marginally improved your last season.

Also, I saw the squad Woody inherited in season 35 and it was full of holes positions 1-3; I remember being pretty shocked at the state of the squad.

Here is my question to you: do you think a coach with such a record deserves another go at the NT?

FWIW, I hope you have a really good EBBL season and your NT players make a solid contribution to both club and country. But I sincerely hope a stronger candidate emerges to be NT coach.

I understand where you're coming from, i struggled towards the end of my first tenure for sure. I had conflicting ideas with whether to focus on the youth which meant playing slightly worse players for the sake of progression or continuing with the older guys and it ended up being a poor result. My worry is that no one else has really voiced an interest in this role and that's how it has always been. We normally never have an actual election as both the times i was elected my opponents were poor or non-existent. If a better candidate can rear his head in the day and a half they have to sign up for the election, i would consider bowing down and giving them a shot. Until then my name will remain in the ring for the sake of us having an actual active manager in charge going forward

Fair enough. If the candidate I want to stand doesn't, at least you're prepared to have a go and I can respect that.

I'm not a candidate by the way - I'm trying to promote my Utopia team out of II.3 this season and that will be challenge enough. I think this debate may have got a little out of hand and I apologise for the part I played in that.

Out of ignorance, currently the NT has +33 yo players and -28 yo.

Considering 31-32 as peak ages, is it there a long term strategy for those youngters?
And related to this, until what age are the guys training? Would you say it's rare to train over 30?
Is it also a training pattern? Eg offensive bigs, perimeter without JR, or viceversa. I'd find this interesting since it'd be the only way to decently face more potent squads.
