And though I know 1 position training would be better for this guy, I always try to question the "Best practices" and see how I could add the body of knowledge by trying sensible things outside the current view of how it's best to train. I was figuring since I intend to keep this guy, it doesn't hurt all that much to train 2 position because I'm not trying to maximize his transfer value.
So passing is a priority, any other offensive schemes my player would fit in better than LI?
About secondaries, IS should be around 10-12 desirably if I understand correctly. But like you said ID is not a clear way to go. You say it won't be high enough to be a factor over anothe rplayers IS/DR, but does that mean that it doesn't matter if IS is 1 or 7 if the opponent has a higher level of IS/DR? Is it a black/white difference, or could a few pops in ID make a difference in another way?
