nice player.
first I relly recommend you to train him in one-position-training if it is possible. he could probably end up being a U21 Guy (depending on your country) if you really want to keep on training 6 trainees, then stick with them for one more season and train them in JS and 1on1. then sell three of them to maximize your profit and continue to train this guy and two others in OD, Passing, Range. i guess you can even make more profit by selling two good trained guards then 5 older guys who probably dont have very good OD and passing skills. but that is your decicion.

If you want him to be a LI player he needs a lot of passing training. it should be at least at 10.
dont try to make him a SF he lacks ID and height. If you just train OD to 15 and Passing to 8-10 its a good start and it will take you a while

for this guy i would recommend train only IS as far as secondaries are concerned. start with some time at C for a few pops (to strong or proficient). then switch to outsideskills. IS will get some pops from 1on1 training later on.

i wouldn't concetrate too much on ID, it will prob go up with your OD training anyway but will never be high enough to be a factor over another players IS/DR. maybe you can give him some training until it reaches 4-5. but there will be other oppinions about that.
dont train RB or SB.

Thank you both for your reply. And though I know 1 position training would be better for this guy, I always try to question the "Best practices" and see how I could add the body of knowledge by trying sensible things outside the current view of how it's best to train. I was figuring since I intend to keep this guy, it doesn't hurt all that much to train 2 position because I'm not trying to maximize his transfer value.

So passing is a priority, any other offensive schemes my player would fit in better than LI?

About secondaries, IS should be around 10-12 desirably if I understand correctly. But like you said ID is not a clear way to go. You say it won't be high enough to be a factor over anothe rplayers IS/DR, but does that mean that it doesn't matter if IS is 1 or 7 if the opponent has a higher level of IS/DR? Is it a black/white difference, or could a few pops in ID make a difference in another way?

well it doesnt make a hugh difference if it is 1 or 5 if your oppenent has his IS at 10+. but it does if his IS is very low.

and because most of the players either dont train insideskills and have a low IS or put a lot efford in it and end up having 9+, I think if your ID is at 6-7 it is just good enough to defend nontrained players. to make a difference against really good LI players it has to be higher and this would be very hard to achieve with your player because he is small and starts with awful ID.....

but as i said before, this is a lot of speculation and i think there are much more experienced guys who can give you more details about this.

but I personaly would train it just a little, so it is higher than average or sth...

I had typed a long message explaining why I'm doing 6 trainees, but halfway through I needed to quickly do something else and when I finished my message and clicked "Send message", it logged me out and I lost my text =/

In essence, I just started playing halfway through last season so I'm spending my money on my arena and only had a little money invested in trainees. I bought a couple of star potential trainees with decent/good starting skills for very cheap, but because of their low potential I thought it wouldn't hurt to train 2 positions. The salary is not wasted because I need players to play games anyway, and if it's not trainees then it's vets I need to buy. In my league these 6 trainees combined with 6 vets do well enough to compete and get to the playoffs. As long as I don't need better trainees/players to compete and fill my arena, I'll keep investing my money in my arena :)

Yeah it's because I drafted this guy last offseason that 2-position training has become less ideal, because he can really benefit from 1 position training whereas my other trainees with just Star potential don't really need it I believe. I'll see if I can sell 3 of the trainees for a decent price, and if I can I'm switching to 1 position training. So as suggested I'll focus on 1v1 and JS the rest of this season which are 2 position in any case.

Thank you for your advice on the skills I should aim for. Do you think it's smart to build him as a LI player, or should I rather try to adapt another offensive scheme that better fits this guy? I'll be buying other players later on so I can still form my team around another offensive scheme, if it is better for my guy.

Also, any thoughts on the ID discussion? Just leave it be?

OK thank you for your insight. I personally like passing as well, especially on bigs I think it's a big plus (no pun intended).

The salary is something I'm getting more aware off, and I'm investing every dollar I can miss in my arena to be able to sustain my players as they grow. However, I haven't been able to download the Salary Calculator from the Help Programs topic (neither the old or the new one), as the RapidShare website says the download is not available or that the request is denied by the uploader. (I can change the URL to let the download button appear, but it doesn't work and the file size becomes 0.00 mb). Any other place I can get it?
