RS Round 8: Friday, August 8th, 2025 ED 88-87 KKS (135191600)

Extraordinary game !
KKS is one of the best team (2 players for 300k of salary), my best player was out, so i sent a "Aleluja Team" with Princeton offense. This old strategy of mine, was used when I was thinking I was about to lose, but I wanted to minimize the gap.

The boxscore shows that KKS is everywhere better than my team, except for the 3 pointers, which I nearly never use, cos my team has not good outside shooters for a long time.

But I won ! By a 3 pointer at the very last second, a real BuzzerBeater :D

Great win, Demars. Yes, Princeton is an outside offense but I have found over the years that it is also a great offense, like the real offense it emulates, in going outside and inside. While it favours outside shots (and is considered a OO by the GE) if your team struggles to get those outside shots off, it adapts far quicker than other offenses and your players go inside. I quite like this offense and use it (not to minimise the point spread as you noted) but when I want the GE to 'choose' outside or inside against a team I know is well balanced but might end up being stronger outside.

Not sure if that makes any sense, but this has always been my thinking with the Princeton off.

Either way, a win to remember!

EDIT: spelling

Wow, what an impressive win against one of top3 HGL teams, and while you have a strong team yourself, it's surely one of biggest surprises of HGL history so far (to me at least) especially considering your best player was out!
Sometimes this "Aleluja"-strategy that you mentioned works, and I've often used it myself with that similar mindset/situation.

Having said that, I´m of course neutral manager in this position, but as you all know (who have been reading my posts), for me underdog surprises are the thing in sports (and in BB) that gets me excited and that's why I often times tend to report/make note especially on surprising results (if they occur).

And while best teams in (say, Top8-)player salaries in most times get the win (especially if many enough matches are played), this win by ED serves as a prime example on why I think it´s so essential to keep the HGL Playoff format as a single elimination tournament, so that underdog surprises remain more likely.

I mean as we saw already, on Season 1 HGL Playoffs match favorites (higher ranked teams in a matchup) were very strong in their matches (and of course having a home court advantage helps, but that´s something to reward them for their Regular Season success) so I think they definitely don't need any extra help in form of a long(er) Playoff series, such as best of 3 or best of 5-format. If single elimination tournament is good enough for NCAA, it's good enough for HGL as well. ;)
