depends on your plans for him. Some additional JS would be nice, but if you're training on a single position, it might be better to wait a little further. He's far from finished though, so you can work on almost any (outside) skill and improve him. But you could determine what to train if you know which position he's supposed to play in the future.

For a PG, train his OD and Passing. For a SG, train his OD and JR. And for a Combo Guard, train his OD, Passing and JR about evenly (perhaps a little more OD)

My GUN rookie would be the best 18 year old going around in Australia i reckon at the moment.

Training is coming along nicely, and he is dominating so many games this season!

Hi there,
Welcome to BB and i hope you are enjoying your first season here with us!

Fingal here, is not a bad looking English player. He's only 19, he has superstar potential (which is more than enough for him as an outside player) and has, with the exception of Inside Shot, some very good starting skill levels.

I would consider training him either as a SG or PG, rather than a SF, mainly because his IS is very low and to bring it up to the level of his other inside skills would take a long time. (Not to mention all of his inside skills would then need to be increased a few levels more after this).

Training as either a PG or SG would require many increases in outside defence and other relevant outside skills. I see he has had an increase already there in the last week before posting. Inside Shot for PGs or SGs isnt as important as many of the other skills, because on an offense they will generally drive/pass/jump shoot to give their team the best offensive opportunities to score. Even this will depend somewhat on the tactics you choose.

His high starting Inside Defence is a nice bonus and may increase slowly when you train his outside defence. Assuming you train his outside skills very well, in all but the top divisions you maybe be able to play him at SF and contain at the defensive end, but with a low IS he may struggle to contribute offensively, particularly if he faces an SF who can defend inside and outside.

I must say though, in your league and probably in Division 3 when you earn promotion, a player like this will grow with your team and lead the team as he is trained well.

i hope the advice / hints have been helpful.
if you would like to keep in touch or ask more questions about what i have posted, post me, or bbmail me back.
cheers

he does look nice. you should keep in touch with the aussie u21 guys to see what their advice is.
competition may be so tough that you have to focus on ID/REB/IS solidly until he is 21 years old and then after think about what training he needs to finish him off as either PF/C.

easiest route is probably C as secondaries are there to some extent. (Some C's dont have any!).

PF would one day need more OD,JS,JR. chuck in a passing pop and you might find HA and DR have crept up in the mean time.

definitely make sure he gets 1 position training and the 48+ mins a week :)

thats some good advice there some of which i have been implementing in a training schedule focusing on outside defence passing and jumpshot in that order. Playing him at point guard has really seen my offence fly high this season. I will decide not to train driving and handling at the present moment. Fingal had a very good game against Moomins , the 8th best team in britain , and was 5 from 8 at one point before missing about 10 in a row as the moomins defence strangled me out the game. Im glad i didnt sell him at the start of the season and took a gamble playing him in a different position. Thanks for your advice Fluff

Glad to hear it and not a problem.
I have found from personal experience of training outside players that i often choose training schedules each week that directly improve outside defence, jump shot and sometime jump range and passing. Handling and Driving tend to increase as you focus on these other skills.

If you want a certain mix of skills, or the player starts out weak in handling/driving it is possible that you would want to train these specifically, but i havent done so yet! If i did id wait until i get where i want to with JS.JR.OD and PA.

As far as training goes (and many other topics) there is some good material in the manual and as stickies in the forums for the interested reader.

One choice is whether you train one position (allowing 3 players to be properly trained) or two position (allowing 6 players to be properly trained).

There are many tradeoffs to doing either and many managers switch between them over time to suit their rosters and numbers of trainees etc. Indeed you may have noticed some training schedules cannot be done at just one position.

Hard luck against Moomins but it sounds like you brought the game to them!
