The forums have been flooded with people complaining that the game engine is way imbalanced towards the outside game, I was just stunned that you hadn't noticed any of that, not that you're ignorant or anything.

Hmmm... well... the game engine changed, but then again - the game "outside design" or "looks" (newbie thread, when searching for a SF in the trade area) suggest otherwise...

Spaghetti incident on my head going on...

It is still there - newbie help thread - so - I guess it should still stand, but, for what GM-Juice says - I have missed some changes maybe?

i didn't like this part of the thread since it is released, generally it rates defence pretty low in comparision to the majority of the player(or at least then who participate in this discussions). Blocking for centers and IS for Guards are jokes in my eye.

Unless that's been updated somewhat recently, it's probably outdated since the new GE was rolled out.

Would it be wise to change the out of date stuff. The older managers have adapted and now create players based on their own knowledge but for the thousands of new managers joining they surely will start out by copying the various guides. It seems unfair that they will have to stumble early on into the threads where more experienced managers are slowly disproving what has been told to them before OR because the game has evolved and the rules aren't being kept up to date to advise of the changes.

What's wrong with a SF like this in the new engine?

Small Forward
(1) Jump Shot, Jump Range, Outside Defense
(2) Handling, Passing, Driving
(3) Inside Shot, Inside Defense
(4) Rebounding

While making classes like that seems weird (skill weights might be better), it still seems about right to me. The only thing the new engine has changed is to give more weight to the outside skills (especially OD, HD and PA) but the inside skills are not unimportant.

Well it depends on the kind of SF you want to create.

Why not simply say that ALL skills are as valuable as one another and the onus is on you to try to create a mismatch vs whomever your opponent is.

The recent posts from BB Charles hint that we are all stuck in the same training patterns and having information posted like this will surely not get the majority to change for a long time. Most parts of this game are evasive at best. The skill guides are great but they will be taken as gospel by most new managers. There is no reason why you cannot create as equally good SF by reversing his JS and IS and his OD with ID (assuming the levels for each skill are 10 and above)

Totally agreed - defense is underrated. Pases are also if you ask me..

this is what stands in the thread, NEWBIES READ FIRST -> (3944.3) OD is that important like IS for Shooting guards, driving is much more important then both ;) Sorry if they read it, they will ahd an difficult start if they take it too serious.

Alone this topics, say don't ask for it thats a fact, not a theorie which is make after 10-20 games from a user with honourable targets.

On that case you are right. My mind as a rookie on the game was:Every player must be able to shoot and play D. Everything else was coming 2nd. Thank the god i was right :)

and the problem on that case it, i know nearly few people who say this post it great(ok it got 5 stars, but this opion is anony) and till now they didn't make a comment that this is just a theory and that there are plenty of different opions around.

In the german forum, a user describes the "effect" of the skills, on the positions with a lite tendency so that the reader trust more on his own experience what "plays" are important. (for those who understand it, or want to check it through Babelfish/Google -> (68477.2))

Another fine move would be maybe an average rating of some "experience" users, if you want to keep it short. Because i think this post above, has nothing to do in a sticky and as a fact for new users.

The strange thing is that the thread is locked so people can't question it. I definitely looked at that thread a few months ago when I started and I am really thankful that I got some advice from good players that set me straight.
The biggest thing to me is that it doesn't emphasize the importance of OD for PG, SG and SF. Having guards who all have Strong+ ID in the bottom divisions can be enough to get you promoted in a hurry.
