A couple of weeks ago I was playing the top team in my conference, on the road. I was down by 2 with 20 secs to go and he had the ball. My coach decided not to foul and time expired.
Now, in the playoffs, down by 2 with over a minute to go and not yet in the bonus, my coach decides to foul 4 consecutive times and put the opponent on the free throw line.
If this were real life, that coach would get a stern talking to, at the very least. So what gives? Does the coaching AI flip a coin to decide whether to foul or not? Is there a consistent rule that triggers it? Sounds like I got sabotaged twice by my own coach.
as i read the thread titel i expect a worse case then this ;) Because the Ai in the last minute is often weird, but your case is imho realistic.
Because even in a RL game coaches will act differently in this situation often depending of a hunch or feeling, even when some coach tend to have the game in the own hand and foul more often while others trust their defense more to get this stop. And using the 4 fouls, to disturb the attac should be normal too.
