So... You'd rather train OD from atrocious instead of IS from atrocious...

Right.

Well lucky for me I have a SF/PF, but let me add that my guard McArtur has stupendous driving and very little IS, and makes layups quite successfully.

OD and JR are the worst skills to train on taller guys, my guy Dell'Asta started with inept OD, he can now guard pretty much any PG/SG in top divisions, took me 28 weeks to train those levels...

My opinion is take the SF.

A SF with atrocious IS is ok, you can train it up to proficient/prominent and he'll still be useful. A good SF without at least tremendous+ OD is useless in higher divisions, and trust me, you don't want to train OD to tremendous from atrocious... Ever.

This much is obvious.

Remember, you can do a defensive switch so he's not guarding the opposing PG

You can do that, but that would mean that you'll need say a PF with as good OD as normal PG. Now that is not very likely to happen...
I also think that IS plays a role to an extent in driving layups but I don't believe it's essential. There are guards with low IS who can make driving layups frequently. And besides, majority of the guards take shots from the perimeter as opposed to from inside. So training IS for guards is not very essential imo.

actually, you don't. You need a PF with enough OD to guard a SF, and an SF with enough OD to guard a SG. Both aren't that implausible... particularly if you're playing with two SGs as Wings.

If you want to play inside offence, you can't have guards with low IS.

True, but life isn't as easy as you'd hope to be :P

Playing inside offense will not change the fact that guards take shots from outside the "inside shot" area.

It also doesn't change the fact that they actually take shots inside the "inside shot" area.

Since I'm kinda new at this...

...would it be better to rank a 18 year old 5 star / 2 potential / A- 6' PG...

...over a 5 star / 3 potential / A+ - 7' 3" C that is 19 years old?

Still getting a real feel on the training aspect of the game. Is the 18 / 19 difference that great?
