Well hopefully they take on my suggestion and simply fill all empty spots with lucky fans :)

That's what happens already, isn't it?

I'm thinking this: what league structure would allow participant teams to not field a team week after week? Or to pull players from the stands, instead of recruiting replacement-level talent (1k scrubs) if it comes down to that?

BB is simming professional sports, not a middle school rec league.

It doesn't currently happen though, if someone lines up 2 players, then it is an automatic forfeit and the end result is automatically 25-0.

I understand your point that in reality teams wouldn't be able to not field a team week after week, but I just don't see a good way to solve this. The salary floor already means that you are wasting money if you don't meet the salary floor, so forcing people to have players might be pointless, except it makes it a bit more realistic. But is the amount of programming necessary worth it just to make it a little more real? I don't know how hard it would be to code, but if it is too hard then I think my suggestion of simply filling all empty spots with lucky fans might be easier.

Realistically I'd rather not see teams forfeiting games at all, I think it ruins the fun of it.

i am for an replacement "standard" bot team who play the games for them, so you don't have to generate everytime a new team. And the games get calculated anyway, but with a normal engine(and maybe still the 25-0 result) we could have normal minutes and injuries.

And what skills would this standard team have?

Rather than having one bot team that is generic, I think it would be better to remove all players from all bot teams. Then when a bot team plays another team, all 5 spots will be filled with lucky fans. This way it takes a lot of strain off the server, and keeps the standard approximately the same for all bot teams, and prevents walkovers.

The bot teams are supposed to give some sort of meaningful game for teams that they play while not being good enough to actually compete heavily with any active team. The current bot teams achieve that (unless there are some long-term abnormalities with some bots, in which case they should be fixed - a separate issue anyway), lucky fans would simply fail. Just imagine playing in a bot league against lucky fans. It's bad enough to play against current bot teams. We want new managers to stay in the game. Most of them won't have any wacky ideas like "oh, now I have a great chance to train and collect money". They want meaningful games to stick around.

There was a bot theam in Australia that actually had a bunch of $30,000 players hidden among its 50 players and won a couple of rounds in the cup. I was really surprised by this, I thought when teams went bot they sold off all players over $10,000.
