My view on vets is much different. You can only train 3-6 players so I figure you're saving a ton of money by targetting vets instead of 20-somethings with the rest of your roster. Who knows if you're going to promote right away but if you're trying to promote, and most teams are when the season starts, then I believe those are the right players to target.

Plus, if he turns around and sells that player, he's not going to lose any $$$. Once players reach 30, they don't really decrease in transfer value much. They're already over that mental hurdle of '30' that far too many owners seem to have. But if you buy a 22-26 year old and don't plan to train him, he will likely lose money when you got to sell him in his late 20's because the idea that he can still improve has ended with the buyers.

Even for a team that's not ready to promote, it doesnt hurt to have more talent to win games, increase the fan survey and sell more tickets. He's only costing 15k and has one amazing skill (passing) and another pretty helpful one (OD). I have a very deep IV team and now I'm wishing I'd bought a guy like this as a backup PG.

Unfortunately, it looks like you bought this guy too late to be able to use him for this year's playoffs.

Also, go Heels! Esp against a team named after Kentucky.

The only real problem with vets it that while younger players late in the season have better skills than their salary, veterans have worse skills than what their salary should be. My SG trainee's salary should be 10K even though I am only paying him 6K, and this gap only gets bigger later in the season and with players that have better skills. In the championship series I will have a 12K SG for 6 K (I'm 99% sure he is going to get a JR pop because he didn't pop last week in JR training). However with an older player he is going to be making more than he is worth later in the season when the season is decided. Also he is only going to get worse; if you aren't ready to win the division next year you will have a worse PG to do it with while the other teams you are competing with have a better/same starting PG.

Still he is a very good transaction but If you don't win soon the buy won't be as good as it could have been.

He will only be making more than he is worth if his skills decline, and as several posters have said, it doesn't appear that the skill loss is significant. Older players are great for lower leagues- they cost less and have high experience compared with younger players.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.
