I didn't say BB-Mail.

Apologies then. If they are sending emails out then this is a good thing.

If they are not then this is something that could be introduced that would help the game

This is great that newstarters to the game in big countries get an automatic message from their countries GMs, however it would be great and arguably more important if the new starters in the tiny countries that are struggling for numbers could also got personalised messages.

What do you think?

Just heard from our GM in Australia that he doesnt think the automatic message from himself is happening in Australia.

(260178.81) & (260178.83)

I didnt realise it was the case but Koops is saying that a GM has to process the application of a potential new manager to join the game, before the new Manager can actually start playing.

I would have thought that the approval of an application could have been processed by the computer automatically thus allowing a new manager to start in the game straight away.

Is there an advantage in having a GM approve an application to join the game?

Since in Australia most of the users are using the English (US) they are also getting a message from a GM but not the Australian one.

My initial suggestion was for a Communications Officer or empowered GM of a country to connect new players from that country, to the local community (261461.1)

Perhaps the GM can message the countries GM or Communications Officer that a new starter from that country has signed up, or instead the countries GM or communications officer gets an automated report of a new starter commencing.

This would enable someone from the same country to provide that New Manager details of key people, threads, potential mentors etc that might be of interest to them, that would help connect that person to the local community

Everything concerning newcomers would have to be automatic. Even now, we are talking about several dozens of newcomers each week in big countries. Nobody could do this voluntary every day for a long period.

Well Australia currently has about 360 Managers.

If Australia got a dozen new Managers each week and the GM or Communications Officer was to be receive notification of them on a report, then it would not take 2 minutes to cut and paste a message to be sent to all of them via bbmail with relevant information about the Australian community.

Larger countries who might have 2 or 3 dozen newcomers each week might take 5 or 6 minutes for that countries GM or Communications Officer, to bbmail them all.

How hard would it be for a weekly report of newcomers to be sent to a designated person from each country or region (for a collection of smaller countries)???

I think that with the way the system is working right now (automatic) everything depends on the new user to get more info. He just have to post a message in the forum or to ask directly the GM.

If we knew the drop out rate of newcomers to the game, we would have a better understanding as to whether the current system is sufficient.

My initial thoughts as to what could be included in a bbmail to a newcomer from a Countries Communications Officer was;

Perhaps hook them up to a mentor (i.e. list of mentors)
Encourage them to get involved in forums or game chat
Send them a list of resources or links that they can access to get help and an understanding with the game
Give them details and understandings of their National U21s team and National team
Highlight potential forums of interest

I dont believe that the current automated messages do all this

A personalised cut and paste message from someone in the same country I believe is more likely to help get a newcomer addicted to the game than just an automated message.

everything depends on the new user to get more info. He just have to post a message in the forum or to ask directly the GM

I doubt if 10% of newcomers would do this, a more personalised approach from someone within that countries community in my opinion would be more successful.

Again if we knew the drop out rate of newcomers to the game, we would have a better understanding as to whether the current system is sufficient.
