Haha, I got mentioned in that thread :D

But no normally I don't really care where the advice is coming from, you just have to look at the advice by itself and decide if it sounds reasonable to you. Though on average I'm sure higher division teams are more likely to give better advice.

So, since the post-season is here, I wanted to share how I think the Div. 4 leagues stack up this season. I had the time, so I wasted a sizable chunk of my day off to try and make a *scientific* answer to this question. And my formulas have yielded the following complete rankings of toughness in Div. 4:

Rhyminsimon's D.4 League Toughness Rankings(100=avg)

1. IV.20 - 127
2. IV.28 - 127
3. IV.32 - 125
4. IV.10 - 125
5. IV.41 - 124
6. IV.14 - 121
7. IV.55 - 121
8. IV.58 - 120
9. IV.60 - 118
10. IV.54 - 118
11. IV.30 - 117
12. IV.56 - 114
13. IV.59 - 113
14. IV.46 - 113
15. IV.31 - 112
16. IV.29 - 111
17. IV.16 - 111
18. IV.1 - 110
19. IV.4 - 110
20. IV.63 - 110
21. IV.18 - 110
22. IV.9 - 108
23. IV.39 - 108
24. IV.42 - 107
25. IV.17 - 104
26. IV.45 - 104
27. IV.21 - 103
28. IV.19 - 103
29. IV.49 - 102
30. IV.26 - 102
31. IV.11 - 101
32. IV.24 - 101
33. IV.22 - 101
34. IV.5 - 100
35. IV.44 - 100
36. IV.33 - 100
37. IV.51 - 100
38. IV.64 - 99
39. IV.13 - 99
40. IV.43 - 99
41. IV.47 - 98
42. IV.62 - 97
43. IV.61 - 96
44. IV.53 - 95
45. IV.57 - 95
46. IV.2 - 95
47. IV.8 - 94
48. IV.52 - 94
49. IV.37 - 93
50. IV.15 - 92
51. IV.40 - 92
52. IV.27 - 92

57. IV.7 - 89
58. IV.38 - 89
59. IV.25 - 86
60. IV.48 - 86
61. IV.6 - 85
62. IV.36 - 84
63. IV.50 - 84
64. IV.34 - 76

In case you're wondering, my methods are *very scientific* ;-) and took into account NR, W & PD. I also weighted heavily to top teams and ignored 5th & 8th (non-post-season teams). If you’re seriously interested I’ll post my formula.

But of course, as the old sexy hippie said, the alternative is to consider that the league is only as tough as its toughest team, period. (And, let's be honest, this list is more fun because it's where individual glory is won!) Here are the leagues by the NR of the top playoff seed:

D.4 League Toughness Rankings (by NR of #1 Playoff Seed)

Here ya go:

DANR1 = Average Nat’l Rank for Conference #1’s in Division
LANR1 = Average Nat’l Rank for Conference #1’s in League
DAW1 = Average Wins for Conference #1’s in Division
LAW1 = Average Wins for Conference #1’s in League
DAPD1 = Average Point Differential for Conference #1’s in Division
LAPD1 = Average Point Differential for Conference #1’s in League

LWANR = League Weighted Average NR(8*LANR1+4*LANR2+2*LANR3+1*LANR4+2*LANR6+1*LANR7)/18
LWAW = League Weighted Average Wins(8*LAW1+4*LAW2+2*LAW3+1*LAW4+2*LAW6+1*LAW7)/18
LWAPD = League Weighted Average Point Differential(8*LAPD1+4*LAPD2+2*LAPD3+1*LAPD4+2*LAPD6+1*LAPD7)/18

DWANR = Division Weighted Average NR(8*DANR1+4*DANR2+2*DANR3+1*DANR4+2*DANR6+1*DANR7)/18
DWAW = Division Weighted Average Wins(8*DAW1+4*DAW2+2*DAW3+1*DAW4+2*DAW6+1*DAW7)/18
DWAPD = Division Weighted Average Point Differential(8*DAPD1+4*DAPD2+2*DAPD3+1*DAPD4+2*DAPD6+1*DAPD7)/18

The weighting of the averages reflects these assumptions about chances of getting to the Finals: #1 seed 8/15, #2 seed 4/15, #3 seed 2/15, #4 seed 1/15. And it judges that winning relegation is about as important (in terms of how tough a league is) as making it to the Semis.

LWANR/DWANR = NR Rating
LWAW/DWAW = Win Rating
LWAPD/DWAPD = PD Rating

Each of these ratings is close to 1 and reflects a league’s toughness in one area as compared to the division’s toughness in that area.

50*(1-NR Rating) + 25*Win Rating + 25*PD Rating = Rhyminsimon’s Toughness Rating

And the weighting of the ratings assumes that the number and strength of wins in the meaningful slots (PO and REL) are each half as important as national rank in determining the toughness of a league. Using coefficients that make average = 100 provided an intuitive way of understanding the rating. It's reads like IQ.

IV.41 is still representing, and whoever gets out of there will probably continue the trend of doing just fine in III.
