I have a 6'6 sg..... pitiful inside defense, but respectable sb.
He has a 1.2 SB average for the season.
In RL terms we all know that height is a factor with a 6'6 guard.
With this game being basically math....the question comes eventually how to cover a human feel to it with math involved?
That is where variables come into play, in math out brings the human or unknown factor into this.......and if there is an unknown factor......that means it is possible that all is not known about this game. And if you think outside the box like I do, it keeps you coming back for more because of the endless possibilities this sim provides.
Back to my point, with a player with no ID to speak of, yet gets over a block a game...could just a decent stat of OD alone be the reason for this?

Ok,
So it is agreed that defensive ratings don't have a bearing on this.
So again the question I pose to you (all) is , what is the factor in the shot blocking then?
It is either of the two things that I have already mentioned......either it is something staring you in the face (height), or something yet unknown (hidden variable/dev related).
Another point to ponder is to cross reference to support. In the game manuel it speaks of taller players training faster in the attributes that benefit the big man, rebounding for example, does it not state that roughly the taller the player the more effective the training will be?
Is this so isolated that it only applies JUST to this instance?
Height has no bearing?? When it is in another area of this game?
There are things written......yet there are things that can be seen that don't exactly jibe with what is told.
Everything must match up to be fact and I'm quite comfortable saying that.

It is not my intent to call the devs "liars", this is not an issue of integrety so I ask of you to be calm at this point.
For the record at this stage of the game for me they never would haveto say anything else as reguards this game because IMO it is that good.
But please excuse my "terrier" nature on this matter but an answer has yet to be given to the question.
What factors into SBing?

I can't speak for others but the first link and the first answer within that topic answers my question.
A hidden variable......in this case, each player has a hidden personality.
Very deep.
Nice.
Ill keep reading the other links.

Woohoo more talk about shot blocking! Let me just say, as many people already probably know from past threads, I absolutely love the skill. Why? Because very few people find the value in it while there is still one there. I have experimente a lot with different players with a range of shot blocking from 4-14. Let me just say that I wish I could find a player with 20SB. SB comes to play more in the zone defenses. Of you have guards and bigs with decent shot blocking then it will make the zones perform more like they are supposed to. Someone mentioned it earlier , but you really see shot blocking coming into play with a 3-2 defense. My explanation of SB is it is a skill to protect the basket when beat on the drive or when beat to a location on the floor by the offensive player. It also acts as "help defense" rolling over to pick up the offensive player when one of the defenders is beat. One of these days I will run with a team of great shot blockers, even with guards, and show just how great it can be to put all of this shot blocking talk to rest ;)

I have done just as you wished to do.
I mentioned the point about the 3-2 defense....that is where I also saw the effect and was sold from that point on.
I have had SBers for a few seasons now. And not to parrot what you just said but on every single point you appreciate, so do I.
