Mike Brown, ugh!

I think I would rather the Lakers signed some unknown and untested rookie coach then one who we know......welll,......we just know. :/

Yes, the Lakers (with the right coach) are still definitely a contender. Again, even with the right coach (ie. Phil Jackson), they can play flat and come up short like they did this season.

Mike Brown pretty much has to win the championship next season for him to be considered a success. Anything less and everyone will say his hiring was a mistake.

The thing is, I don't think Phil was the "right coach" last season. I think that the players had ceased to pay attention to Phil Jackson and his coaching staff. And that's why they ended up the way they did.

I do agree too: anything less than a title's going to make it difficult for fans to be "ok" with Coach Brown.
I think 2 things need to happen moving forward...
- Brown needs to get an excellent staff around him. Grgurich and Messina should LA be able to land 'em...
- LA needs a new point. Regardless of what system's in place, Fish's now too old, and Blake isn't the answer.

Messina wants to be an NBA coach. But he also "gets it" that he'll have to do a few years as an assistant too. From what I've read, this is why he quit Real. Not sure that it was his failure at Real, or Real's failure of buying into a system that required some humility on their part.

Despite my misgivings on Brown (and there are heaps), I like the way he's started. Approaching Messina and Grgurich is smart. He lands those guys and keeps Persons, it gives him immediate cachet.

Don't shoot the messenger - I'm just saying what's been said in the US in the media.
I do know that regardless of where you think the blame lies in the Real fiasco, he's perhaps the most highly-regarded coach outside the NBA, by the NBA. And considered to be the most suitable non-NBA coach for the NBA.


Anyway i think there going to be too many changes for the lakers to compete for the ring next year.

getting back on topic

Okay, I think the West will probably be the Lakers...I guess OKC or San Antonio could upset them. Dallas just never seems to go anywhere in the post season.

The East is a little trickier. Chicago, Boston, Miami and Orlando are all worthy teams...not sure if Chicago is ready or Boston is the same without Perkins...Orlando would have to defeat two of these teams on the road...probably not? Does that leave me with Miami?

In your defense, the West turned out to be very much fun with Memphis and OKC, and i don't think anyone could have predicted that. However, SA was very predictable, and Dallas is always a gamble(unfortunately for Mavs fans)
