I think a start would be recruiting Canadian owners to particiapate in the training process. Then helping them plan short term and long term goals for the players that they train.

This is something that the scouts will be doing for the players they get.

Another thing I'd like to see is more owners that had great careers but then lose a bit of interest using their huge financial resources for training potential NT players. I know that there are at least a couple of guys like this that played Naismith in the past, and while they continue to log into the site in order to avoid going BOT, they're not really playing the game. It would be nice to see them at least focus on something like this.

The only teams like that currently are The Mogul, Mod-oeuftete and TigerUnderGlass. The Mogul doesnt log in enough. I dont even know if Mod-oeuftete reads the forum or BBmails and TigerUnderGlass doesnt log in enough and if he did would be more focused on promoting then anything else I think. So thats a tough one.

Maybe I shouldn't have much of an opinion on this as I haven't been involved in the training of Canadian players since I joined the site but that will change in this off-season.

And maybe the next if this plan works out? ;)

I made a brief attempt to get something going for a U21 season

Yes I remember this, but as you said it wasn't planned out properly and no one was really aware of what was going on.

It didn't turn out well, but I was able to match up a couple inexperienced managers with good trainees with mentors though, and encouraged a few players to sell their good trainees for quick cash which was in their best interest. I think it also got Sammons some early training when he was really being botched, which has helped me out quite a bit now that I have him after he's made some stops elsewhere.

Sammons is definitely a lot better than i had anticipated at first. He is still behind in training though and will need to pop quick in order to catch up!

There were some smaller wins for sure, hopefully this time we will get a much larger win :)

Obviously. I'm thinking more along the lines like starting a recruitment thread looking for Canadian owners that want to focus on training Canadian talent. Looking over their current talent and finding them better longer term prospects if necessary. Perhaps teaching the newer owners how to draft so that they corner the best prospects and make it less of a crapshoot.

For example, I just looked at our NT writer's team and he's not training a single player. (if he is, I apologize but he shouldn't be training anyone on his current roster). And there are several guys just like this in divisions 3 and 4 that could be training 1, 2 or even 3 future U21 prospects. I wonder how many other owners could be sent emails asking if they'd like to be involved in something like this? And of course the positive side effect to all of this is increasing the involvement in the Canadian community.

Yeah, I apologize. That was my mistake in League IV: not getting trainees. I'm actually waiting till next season to start training and I've looked at the draft prospects. I haven't got any off the transfer list because none of them fit the billing I want and I'm already saving up money. I'm training a few players, although they are not Canadian. I've told Bballin about this dillemma but I promise to start training next year :)

Waiting until next season is a a good plan, there will be a slew of solid 18 year old prospects on the market and they're never cheaper to buy than the week or 2 following the draft.

I see, well that too is something we could do. We would need to get a few managers to help out. Once again a good discussion place is the offsite forum!

TigerUnderGlass is still playing straight up, he's just been up and down between D2 and D3 for years. Mod-oeuftete checks in quite regularily and is likely just looking for a new direction. So does The Mogul, he checks in once a week anyways. That's all you need to check in for training.

This guy (24838) also meets the description. And don't forget this legend (24818). Not sure what Yorty's plans are but he's 0-19 this season (24993). And it looks like (34062) just started ramping up again down in D3 with a 13 game winning streak.

But you don't need these guys to read the forums, that's what email is for. ;) Maybe round up some troops for the new season and try and put a 5-6 year plan together for training some studs.

All i can say is, this whole NT experience came at me at the completely wrong time
Do I regret taking the reign, no, but there were obviously issues here and there... but I still think my issues have brought out the fire in some of the managers and voices that have been hidden for a while =)

I'm glad it's over and I can slip into a more support role for the NT program
Analyzing teams and strategies are not my thing...
But scouting and building roster databases i can do.... training im also not bad at... and if I have time BSing on the off-site I can also do

Aside from my lack of time to even schedule scrimmages for my own team in the last 2 weeks, i think i have enough to spare for the NT program whatever it needs from me

Cheers,
ZM

Bballin has been one of, if not he best U21 manager ever.

Forgot to reply to this. Lets not get too hasty here. The Mogul is without a doubt in my mind at least the best U21 manager Canada ever had and HPP helped shape the core of the current U21. Lets not get into crazy talk here :P
