We sat down with Linndale legend and current GM Roberto Gurgone after last night's 106-100 victory over the Shangdong Golden Lions, currently seeded 4th in the Big 8 playoff race, to talk about the team's youth, the future, and plans for Season 64.
On the team's youth
We're really young. The senior member of the roster is 25. Our starting 5 ages are 22, 23, 22, 21 and 21. The second unit ages are 20, 23, 22, 23, and 22. That means there is a lot of competition and camaraderie. The best thing about it is if you asked who the best was at a given skill, you'd get a different answer. It's not just a collection of players; this is a group that complements each other.
On the future
The future is bright. The defense is tough, tenacious, and versatile. The offense can be quite explosive. This should be a group that grows together for a long time. We believe the future is now.
On the team's expectations for Season 64
We fully intend and expect to make it to the playoffs. Everyone from the top down expects it. That's always been the expectation here, even if it hasn't always been met.
On the most exciting player on the team
That's an answer that changes often as well. We have an exciting group, but I think right now the excitement is for Piotr Bolibok; the fans and his teammates call him Petey Buckets.
On Season 64
It starts now for us. We're going to finish strong, handle business in the relegation round, and set up a strong start so when Season 64 begins, we collect W's. We know we're in the toughest conference of the toughest league in D3. This won't be easy. We are up for the challenge.
