I'm seeing teams use three player lineups. I've been told it isn't tanking, but I fail to see the advantage. Any ideas?

Players also do this in scrimmages or games they know they won't win so that they don't play their key players too much and lower their Gameshape but can still get training minutes for one of the three they play.

I suppose BB can't force players to use the best possible tactics to win, but for me this is way on the other side of acceptable. I can't imagine a team in the NBA getting much support form its fanbase if it suited three players for a game. (That said, I can't imagine a team in the NBA having a practice where 3 players showed up or telling players they could not benefit from practice unless they got 48 minutes of PT during the week--I suppose there has to be some escape from reality.

Either way, It looks bad, even if it is not considered "tanking." And isn't there a way to accomplish the same thing and still suit five players? Why not just list those three players as starters and subs and tell the coach to follow your lineup? That works in training for me. The 3 player nonsense is just gaming the system; I'd rather play a bot.

Yeah but even if you have to dress 5 players, teams can just dress 4 under 1k salary players plus their trainee for the same effect.

Put five on the floor. I think there should be significant gate and league sanctions (as in no gate and aggressive fines for anti-competitive conduct like this.) No league would allow one of its franchises conduct business like this. Fans would not support it. I suppose there is a good reason for allowing it--that has not been explained to me yet-- but it looks bad and it goes beyond wins and losses. It should be a straight-up forfeit. Why should teams have to put their players at risk of injury because someone wants to game the system. It isn't even a true three of five matchup, as ghost players collect rebounds and take shots; should not be happening, at least during the regular season. Scrimmages are a different story as long as injuries do not take place on the team putting five on the floor.

I see a huge advantage to it, especially in the first 16 weeks of a team's life when they don't have to pay the salary floor. On my Utopia team I dress 5 players, and they are all low salary to pocket as much money as I can for 16 weeks. I get blown out every game but still dress the 5 for sportsmanship. I have used the 3 player lineups when you want to ensure you lose all games in the season and get the number 1 pick. Tanking? Well.. That's up for debate but as long as it's allowed it will happen.

I have to agree. At the heart of it is tanking... At least people have to play 3 players now. A year ago people could put 0 on the floor, waste your training minutes when you play them, and they would get the #1 pick with 20+ forfeits. I think it could all be solved by forcing teams to dress 5 players. Teams will still tank with 5 players and 5k total salaries, but at least they won't have ghost men running around the floor.

Blame the horrible training/shape system. Teams can't field an effective lineup for 3 games a week if they wanna be competitive for any longer than that specific week. That, in combination with the need to constantly play players out of position if you want to get any meaningful result out of their training is what forces players to tank games so they can effectively use them as "minute regulators" until they get knocked out of the cup.

Very true Xamos. If the training system let you get the 100% training in any stat by playing the players in their natural position it would help the overall gameplay. If I could single position train my Center to get passing training at just the C position it would be amazing! And during the cup, it is horribly hard to stay competitive in league and try to survive the cup as long as you can. Game shape gets killed. These have been part of the game forever and there has to be a reason that they have not been revamped.
