In the BB Mobile App forum, Alonso brought up some good arguments that I agreed with in principle...
(308837.4)But since that discussion was also derailing that thread, I thought making a new one here would be better. I should also acknowledge before I continue that several players have said in the favourite BB features thread that they like the game because the game world doesn't advance too quickly...
With that said, I've long argued that a major reason why BuzzerBeater won the war with Charazay was that the latter tried to make a 17 week season work, and players got bored of it quicker than they did BB. This is one reason I have on more than one occasion proposed schedule tweaks that would allow us to fit everything into 13 weeks instead of 14...
(271276.1)I think it becomes too difficult to make the season shorter than 13 weeks without major changes to how the game works (game shape especially), so I can't see Alonso's 1.5/2x server speed idea actually happening. But we should remember that the web-based manager genre is 23 years old now, and in that time, the internet and how we use it has changed in almost every way. HatTrick's slow 16 week season was fair for it's day, but now your average user demands more from online forms of entertainment.
With that in mind, I think it was a good thing to bring up, even if the best we could do right now is 13 weeks. Also, Joey's 3x3 sub-game idea in the post before that was a great suggestion, and something that even veterans could enjoy if done right. A single-player streetball campaign that people can play through at whatever pace they want is something I could see myself playing and liking.
The point is that, this broader idea of game speed is something I've long thought was worth talking about, especially for user retention but also in just making the game better all-round. And with that, I hand the floor over to whoever wants it.
