Better late than never to get this thread started.

Just wanted to point out that I first played my opponent tomorrow, FresRez, in Season 17... 13 RL years ago. (36159532)

Gonna see if I can get any of my retired players to come out for the game... maybe we could have an old-timers game at halftime?

I was trying to figure out if you and I ever played each other when I had my old team, but I think unless we played in the cup, when I was on my way down from the NBBA you were on your way up and when I relegated to II.3, you were coming through II.4.

Some thoughts about the season so far:

1. I don't remember being in a div that was so competitive while also being so unbalanced.
2. I'll take a picture of my 13-0 record and store it for memory, because with away games coming up at Cacti, Wolves, Mortars, 76ers, and Navajo Nation --- as well as a not-obviously-a-win home game vs. Hipsterbears --- I could take as many as 6 losses in the coming 9 games. Hopefully I hold serve vs. Hipsterbears, and can steal 1 or 2 away games, which would land me at 18-3
3. Last season 18-3 was good enough for auto-promotion, but this season I don't think so. Big Njord in II.1 has 1 loss, and a very easy path ahead.
4. In fact, 18-3 is not even going to be good enough for finals HCA. Hipsterbears path ahead also makes them competitive for auto-promo (I expect that if I beat them, they'll end 20-2). Also, the easiness of Hipsterbears path will make it nearly impossible for Cacti to catch up, especially if Hipsterbears hold serve at home in the final stretch.
5. I do think if I keep up my PD, it will be very hard to dislodge me from the top of my conference. SK Wolves is now down 3 games + PD, so effectively 4 games. (It might be all that I get from this is a finals appearance.)
6. Looking at the playoff races it seems that NNA, Mortars, and Rockets are fairly safe. Crows and Lakers will battle it out (Lakers is at home for their matchup). Unless rosters change dramatically even the fifth place team on the red side should have little to fear in a Home series vs the seventh place team on the blue side.

P.S. I wanna hope that being 13-0 at the ASG gets me at least a couple all star selections. Otherwise my head will explode.

I think the rest of us are hoping you lock in at 22-0 and the rest of us can squabble over the scraps! Excited to see what Fat does to my team when his game shape gets up. I was shocked when I got him at the price, and hadn't really planned for it to happen. Wont be any more adds from me.

I would be closer to the playoff line in the Big 8 had I not, intentionally, dropped some winnable games to prioritize the Cup so I got the guaranteed 3rd training game All-Star week.

Yeah the cup interference is real (for me it went the other way: I was kicked out by a team doped up on high salaries that went bankrupt shortly after they beat me.).

You do have a favorable home/away split in the rest of the season, and it’s not out of the cards that you can make it back in. Though I’m actually not sure which is better between a gimme relegation series and a first round exit in PO. I suspect the former is financially better.

You were Lake Merritt, right? I don't think we played... i did have a couple matches vs King Drive during his rebuild and knocked out an NBBA team from the cup as a IV team but that's about it.

I studied the top teams' roster construction and forum posts pretty intently early on. That was a long time ago but I'm sure you helped my learning process!

Don't think I've ever seen a team with so many guys at or around the same age. How many of those 23 year olds are you actively training? Any of them on track for USA NT?

Well, I bought Taylor and Hayes off the market while they were mostly trained. When I started this rebuild I wanted to create a team of trainees with SF builds so I bought a bunch of 6'5" to 6'8" 18 yo to train. And since I prefer to use only USA players, I tend to hold them forever.

Shelton and Edwards were my main trainees though their U21 season, although only Edwards made the U21 team. Shelton is my #1 so he probably has the best NT chance given he's an MVP potential.

Edwards is pretty much done with his outside training so he's just sitting there waiting for the rest. Connor is the #3 priority behind Shelton and Edward. Nava and Hayes fall behind them. Guillen and Griffith are cup/scrimmage players at this point and aren't being trained.

The reality of the current training system is that I'll be lucky to get Shelton, Edwards, and maybe 2 of Connor, Nava or Hayes to a finished point. Shelton should get to over 140 TSP when he's done. Edwards and Connor will probably be around 130. Nava and Hayes will likely end up in the 120s.

I will say though, that the team accountants are appalled at the amount of money being spent on transfers and salaries for the training staff these past 6 seasons.
