U21 - NEWSFLASH

This season we will play the "Consolation Tournament", which exists of two phases.
First phase we will play 8 games. The 32 top-teams in after these games qualify for the next phase,
a singe-game knockout tournament. The team that advances the furthest from each confederation
(in our case Europe), will host the next continental competition.
We've played two games so far;

Austria - Makedonija 99-83
Thailand - Austria 56-87

Both games we've won, with less effort, quite easily. Our Inside Defense looks stable and with Stolz and Haselmayr, we've got two great guards. When i take a look at the next matches, we shouldn't have a problem to qualify for the knock-out phase. Next matches:
Austria (45) - Moldova (84)
We are the stronger team, should be an 'easy' win.

Indonesia (54) - Austria (45)
Although we are the higher ranked team, has got a strong roster, mostly inside with salary 32k. 13k. 2x11k.
Our outside is stronger, possibly our home-court advantage will bring us the win.

Austria (45) - New Zealand (74)
Again, the low ranking of New Zealand doesn't match up with their roster. This is probably the hardest game of the 8.

Scotland (63) - Austria (45)
We are the stronger team, should be a win.

Kazakhstan (92) - Austria (45)
Kazakhstan, coached by my fellow-dutch-colleague Oranjeman, is the weakest opponent of the 8

Austria (45) - Al Jazair (62)
Probably we have already qualified for the next round when we play Al Jazair, a game that we should win.

Please keep training to make some nice results and keep up the good shapes !!

U21 - NEWSFLASH

Small Update from your U21. Since the last Update we've played two games, against Moldova were the prediction was that we should 'easily' win, and a harder game against Indonesia.

Austria - Moldova 96 - 73
With less effort we've won this away-game with a difference of 23 ptns. In our strategy we've got to focus on outside-tactics, because on these positions we've got some great players. This game was a nice example. At SG Stolz made the difference with a stunning 37 ptns, followed by Bajin on SF with 28 ptns. Inside we weren't that strong and even against this opponent we didn't manage to get the rebound (55 - 62). That is a bit worrying when we progress in the tournament. On the other hand, our C and PF had a nice number of assists (8 and 12)

Indonesia - Austria 112 - 120
Same effort, but a wrong guess in the focus, we did manage to win this game, probably because of the home-advantage.
Again, Stolz and Bajin had a great piece of the pie with 36 and 26 ptns., and even the rebounding went better. Indonesia has some strong inside-players, and we managed to stop them and had some great rebounds (Rieser 19). I'm very pleased with this win.

Half-way the first half of the tournament we have a record of 4 - 0 and are currently on world-rank 43 and rising.
Could we manage to finish the first fase with a 8 - 0 record? That depends on the next match against New Zealand, who have a strong team. The unbeaten records is a nice goal to archieve.

Early-Morning Game against New Zealand, the match i 'feared' most for the 8-0 record, and we've won again !

What a great guard-combi we have with Stolz (29 pts) and Haselmayr (22 pts), assisted by Bajin at SF (19 pts) and a great inside Defense from Rieser (14 reb.). Still unbeaten, for a small BB-Country as Austria i think a great result.

Downside is that i hardly see any players that could be suitable for the NT, as the players in the U21 have a low potential (Haselmayr = allstar, Rieser = allstar). Please keep train de 'low-potentials' for the U21, but don't forget to train the high-potentials for U21 and NT !! If you have a high-potential but not able or know how to train, please contact me or Hupfingatsch.

U21 Update

Just finished the final game in the first round consolation tournament (away against al-jazair, win 86-60), and we have the 8-0 record !!
I think a great archievement from our squad!

Tomorrow we'll know who we will face next round, at least we have homecourt advantage.

Also, tomorrow we will know if we rise in the world-rank (currently 38)
Highest ever for the u21 was pos. 28 in season 14 (2010).

U21 - Newsflash

Austria U21 defeated in second round of Play-Offs Consolation Tournament

After a great match in the first Knock-Out Phase against Andorra (85 - 124), Austria had to face the strong
team of Chile. Although Austria had home-court advantage, they never were the upper team. After overtime Chile won with less effort (115-104) and will go through to the next round.

After a great season, where Austria went undefeated to the KO-Phase, it is expected that the manager from this point on will focus on next season and will give the new 20-yr potentials there chance to prove their value for Austria.

Congrats! It was a great season for our U21 NT!
