Thank you folks for your answers! I really appreciate those.

Another question: if I bought a player earlier this week and decided to fire him before Sunday (the economy update), what would be the impact on:
1) player salary --- Do I have to pay him a week of salary or a compensation fee?
2) tax rate when I sell players? (as this would increase with more sales)

1)No (this happens only at the staff when you fire them)
2)When you fire a player doesnt count as a sale

It isnt any issue to do this...only in Fan Survey probably some of your ratings will be low
PM/Advices:
1)Concentrate on training as new manager
2)Buy a respectable trainer at least,in the beginning is enough
3)Roster 12-14 players
4)Do not expand the luxury boxes any more (27 are too much for your league).Expand the other seats when you have cash to spend
5)Avoid to buy a player and after few days to sell him because the
fees are too high (you get 60% of the price that you sell him).As long a player stays in your team and after you want to sell him you pay less fee->more profit

One last question: how long should a player stay before I sell him to avoid the 40% selling fee?

I have a player 57 days and if i sell him i will get 90 %
The maximum you can get is 97% of the selling price
So approximately +-80 days

How does one construct a team that can consistently score throughout the game? My players aren't bad but it seems whoever I bring in or take out and no matter my opponent, inevitably we will go on an 8 minute stretch when guys go 0-20. It's incredibly frustrating.

Has Potential been changed at all? I was wondering how accurate this page from the manual, still was.
How does potential work?
Potential acts as a cap on training. Different potential levels cap out at different skill levels. So an MVP can be trained longer than an Allstar potential player. There is a rough salary estimate corresponding to the cap for each potential level. Once the skill set of a player reaches a particular point (The soft cap) that is equal to the potential level of the player, training really slows down and it becomes ineffective to train the player anymore.

0 Announcer: < 6k
1 Bench warmer: < 8k
2 Role player: < 13k
3 6th man: 10-15k
4 Starter: 15-20k
5 Star: 20-30k
6 AllStar: 30-50k
7 Perennial allstar: 50-85k
8 Superstar: 80-120k
9 MVP: 100-200k
10 Hall of famer: 200k+
11 All time great: 300k+

The above is a rough estimate of potentials and where they cap at. Note that centers are generally capable of attaining a higher salary than guards.
