The Batangas Five made history last night by reaching Round 6 of the National Cup for the first time since forming the francise. team owner walangutak on a post game interview said "i am happy and please of the teams improvement year after year after year, this is only our 6th season as a francise making us a pretty young francise and for a young franchine such as ours, it is a big accomplishment to reach the round 6 of a very prestigious tournament like the national cup"

Batangas five reach round 6 by beating Bloodseeker of league 3.15 98 - 68 last night, Batangas was never treatened by bloodseekers leading from opening buzzer to the end, showing suffocating defense from the get go limiting the other team total of 9 points in the first 12 minutes of the action, 28 points after 2 quarters of play.

it was a balanace attack for Batangas five with five of batangas squad scoring in double digits while diva and wheeler contributing 9 and 8 points respectively,Bloodseeker on the other hand had to rely solely from thier star Fabales who had to play extended minutes, playing 43 minutes because of the way his other team mates are playing scoring 22 pts grabbing 22 rebounds 6 coming from offensive glass...

Round 6 will be played in Batangas facing a very though and talented BIR Makati team of PPL

January 25 to January 30 recap: Cresta Verde Mountaineers 2-1


Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- The Cresta Verde Mountaineers went 2-1 losing against Queen's Coast Silv3r and defeating Petron Chemicals and division IV North Camp in the National Tournament.

It was a tight ball game all throughout as the Mountaineers were able to defend their matchup thoroughly but with a home-court advantage, and arguably better players, the Silv3r answered the Mountaineers each quarter to win 99-88.

Five players were in double-figures for the Silv3r led by Daryl Erum's team high 28 points. Graciano Recamara had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Balthasar Koenderink with 21 points and 14 assists while John Opina had 10 points and 16 rebounds. Marius Ozelski scored 12 points for a balanced attack.

Teodosio Amanted led the Mountaineers with a game high 30 points and 12 rebounds while Renald Geonanga had 19 points and 14 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the rest of the team went cold throughout. Fillmore Sabangan chipped in 10 points.

versus Petron Chemicals
Fresh from the close defeat in their last league game, they went offensive against the Chemicals defeating them 110-77.

Renald Geonanga led the Mountaineers with 34 points and 17 rebounds in 15-17 field goal shooting.

The Chemicals were led by He Mingxian and Ntinos Mpoukovalas scoring 25 points each but it wasn't enough to stop the onslaught of a established star in Renald..

versus North Camp
With 33 assists compared to North Camp's 7, the Cresta Verde Mountaineers breezed past Camp 107-71.

This time, Santos Verano led the Mountaineers with 31 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists proving how valuable he is for the team. Erben Maranon had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

Neil Hobson led Camp with 29 points and Hermes Capule grabbed 23 rebounds with 13 points in the defeat.

February 1 to 6 recap: Cresta Verde Mountaineers 1-2


Vulacan Arena, Fairview -- The Cresta Verde Mountaineers went 1-2 as they lost both their league game but advanced in the National Tournament defeating division II, same conference leader New Oagas Society.

at Naga City Madunong 76-91
With a 7-man rotation, Naga City Madunong was able to defeat Cresta Verde Mountaineers 91-76. They were led by the troika of Artur Czarnocki, Ingmars Gleizdans, and Przemysław Bialota scoring 24, 24, and 22 points respectively.

Fillmore Sabangan led the Mountaineers with 27 points but they were able to limit Renald Geonanga with 12 points.

vs Gwapsak 53-88
As the Mountaineers were preparing for their National Tournament game against New Oagas, Gwapsak ransacked them at their home floor 88-53.

Brian Otobusin led Gwapsak with a double-double, 16 points and 13 rebounds as only Claude Regale (16 points) and Melanio Gabo (11 points and 10 rebounds) scored in double-figures and contributed for the Mountaineers cause.

vs New Oagas Society 111-122
It was a highly anticpated matchup between the two as not only are they in the same division, it was really that competitive.

The Mountaineers were able to eliminate Society as they match their output per quarter led by Teodosio Amante's 54 points and 10 rebounds.

Renald Geonanga had a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds as Fillmore Sabangan filled the stat-sheet with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

Bobby Montealto led the Society with 38 points and 11 rebounds while Allan Genzola paced the team with 27 points and 11 assists with zero turnovers. Carmelo Maciano scored 24 points while Romy Cerbo almost had a triple-double with 8 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

One glaring difference was that the Mountaineers were able to go to the line 40 times (making 29) compared to Society's 7 free throw attempts that had them calling 'foul'.

At this point, starting guard Marion Pacete did not suit up as he got injured last week but the Mountaineers was able to take this one from fellow Great 8 rival Society.

Cresta Verde Mountaineers 'destroyed' Dynamite Braves 121-58

Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- After getting eliminated by Pokémon BC, the Cresta Verde Mountaineers unleashed their frustration against the Dynamite Braves unloading a ton of bomb to win big 121-58.

After submitting two press releases, they were equally frustrated as their PR department wasn't able to submit their performance last week.

On to their latest game, Steve Valle led the Mountaineers with in 28 points in 10-12 field goal shooting in arguably his best game of his young career. Renald Geonanga was his usual self notching a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Fillmore Sabangan almost had a triple-double with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists despite shooting 2-11 from the field.

Miha Brajdic led Braves with 40 points but the team is practically 'lost' that they have no chance against the vengeful Mountaineers.

Renald Geonanga coming off a performance of a lifetime against Pokémon BC notching 51 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks in 22-28 field shooting playing all 48 minutes did not shown signs of any weakness as he remains upbeat in their chances as they shift their focus in their league games.

Cresta Verde Mountaineers: 0-2 for the week

Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- With the home-court advantage, the Cresta Verde Mountaineers looked forward to their matchup against Zennings but did give their best against Ciudad Grande Home Owners in their two league match-up last week.

However, they lost by 20 against Owners and succumbed to a 100-88 defeat at the hands of Zennings - both away from their home floor.

Despite being able to predict their game against Home Owners, their onslaught was too much as they exerted more effort with Cris Santuyo, Pavlas Talanovas and Oscar Guerau scored 27, 25 and 20 points respectively.

Fillmore Sabangan led the Mountaineers with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists while Renald Geonanga had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

It didn't help as they have twice the number of turnover (18) compared to Owners.

Against Zennings, it was an awful game to watch according to GM Nicolo Maro as he even left the arena on the third quarter.

His team was competitive in the first quarter but was awful in the second with 10 points (18 by Zennings) and atrocious third quarter with 8 points (28 by opponent). He was surprised to see the final score as the Mountaineers was able to score 46 big points in the fourth but with the game already quite a reach.

Claude Regala led all scorers with 30 points - his best game so far. But the night belonged to Zenning as they shot 28 free throws converting 21 compared to the Mountaineers 9 of 16 free throws made and attempted.

"Nothing surprising, we have lost two starters" GM Nicolo Maro said. "we hope we can still make a push and make the playoffs as Marion and Amante are about to return."

First Dominoes Fall In Major II.2 Roster Shakeup

News spread through the II.2 teams that Burning Legion, attempting to hold on to its PPL caliber roster is now facing bankruptcy and is forced to sell its players. The first player to get transferred is none other than floor general Alberto Fernando Tolones, who is now part of Dencio's Bulad Rice. Tolones is the first major player acquired as Dencio's Bulad Rice attempts to revamp their own roster. After Tolones, Erap Denzon is sent to Bounty Trollers in the attempt of the team to improve its standing. On the other hand, Global 9 acquires veterans Paolo Freires and Jofel Villagonzalo to support its roster. Stay tuned as more changes are expected to happen within the league.

Manila Bombers Acquire Julius Caesar Borja

In preparation for the playoffs, Manila Bombers bought Borja from Burning Legion. In just two games, he has shown promise averaging 13 points and 4 rebounds helping in wins over Global 9 and stopping the hot streak of Contra Tiempo. At the same time, the Bombers reacquired Melenio Hochadel, the last player from its original team back in season 11, to serve as a mentor to the other players. With its roster now set, the team sets its sights on the key game against Dusty Goons as the teams battle for the first seed in the Big 8 conference. Finally, with a stomp on the bot team Ninuno Gods, LAYA FC secures home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Burning Legion First Building Block "Acquired Alberto Valerio Sta. Maria"

After being demoted in the PPL, a long crisis in the management this season and a team that experienced bankruptcy; Burning Legion is BACK and getting ready for the next upcoming season. Since all of the former players of the team has left because of bankruptcy, the first move they made is to have a new star for the fans to cheer for. And they've acquired a very talented and defensive minded PG Alberto Sta. Maria "former player of PRO TAMBAYS. Hoping for the comeback, they still need 3-4 starters and a decent bench to be competitive next season. " This is just the start, stay tuned what will happens next" said by the GM of Burning Legion. l

Cresta Verde Mountaineers eyes the playoffs 1-1 last week



Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- Getting stuck in the neutral, the Mountaineers are looking to force their way through the playoffs with the acquisition of Rennor Villegas for that 'final push' and the return to form of their starters - Marion Pacete and Teodosio Amante.

Their first of five games left pitted them against So Awkward Players going toe-to-toe with them but eventually losing away from home, 96-108.

For some reason, Mountaineers coach Doc made "Geo" play in the three where he is typically used as a four. Renald Geonanga scored a game-high 39 points but division II.3 leading scorer Arcadio Silva poured in 34.

Three other players for both teams scored in double figures but +12 made field goals, +13 in rebounding and the home-court advantage made the Awkward Players winner in this bout.


The Mountaineers hold off the surging Bugo Headcrackers as they defeated them 113-93. Bugo is one-game behind the Mountaineers for the 5th spot and would like to crack the playoffs have no answer as the Mountaineers scored 43-23 in the first quarter.

Headcrackers managed to score a point better than the Mountaineers but it didn't erase the fact that they were trailing by 19 in the first half, 47-66.

The Mountaineers continued their torrid shooting as they came out in the locker with 33 points compared to 20 holding a 99-67 advantage entering the fourth.

Fillmore Sabangan led the Mountaineers with a game-high 31 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 15-21 field goal shooting in 34 minutes with zero turnovers while Rennor Villegas had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in 8-10 shooting.

Jimeno Tamban also had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes.

Jack Mansfield led Bugo with 22 points while the rest of the starters scored in double figures but that's it as the game was already decided entering the fourth - heck even at the first of the quarter.

Cresta Verde Mountaineers currently 4th seed with the win against New Oagas Society



Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- It is no secret that the Cresta Verde Mountaineers wants to make the playoffs, that's why the win against New Oagas Society was 'crucial' as they deem their remaining games 'must-wins' to make to grab the 4th spot.

"Right now, we might need to win every game to make the postseason," GM Nicolo said. "tonight, the guys showed how tough they can be."

"Tough" meaning to rough it out was the key in this game as not only are they (Society) missing two key players - Tersol and Maciano - they lost Engelbert Suguilon in the first three minutes and Bienvenido Enojo in the third quarter as they were not able to return due to injury.

They were playing with just five players against the 'clicking at the right time' Mountaineers in full strength.

In the first quarter, Society showed their own toughness leading the 31-27. The Mountaineers turned the page in the second quarter with 31 points compared to Society's 19 leading by 8 - 58-50 - entering the second half.

At this point, Renald Geonanga already had 22 points for the home team.

Although he scored only 2 points in the second half, the Mountaineers successfully fended off the rally of Society's five-man team as they scored 23 against 22 in the third and had a torrid shootout in the fourth with 42-41 scoring outputs to a 123-113 victory.

Bobby Montealto had a game-high and a career-high 56 points and 11 rebounds shouldering the load in his back. "He was phenomenal, reminds me of Geo when he had that 50+ scoring earlier in the season doing everything for the Mountaineers to compete," GM Maro said.

He was supported by Allan Genzola notching 23 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds in 10-19 shooting but it wasn't enough as four starters for the Mountaineers scored in 20+ points.

The returning Teodosio Amante scored 26 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists with zero turnovers in 40 minutes while Marion Pacete had 24 points and 8 assists.

Geo had 24 points fouling out in 30 minutes while Rennor Villegas had another double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Fillmore Sabangan also was foul-troubled but Santos Verano picked up the slack in the 3 spot notching 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Mountaineers initial plan for the season is to let the young backcourt of Steve Valle and Claudio Regala 'learn it out' but the opportunity to make the playoffs is enticing enough for the management.

"We understand that in order to be over the top, we have to make sacrifices in the short-term for the long run but the desire to win is always there," GM Nicolo Maro said. "the opportunity is here, to win now, and we'll grab it."

As a fan of the Cresta Verde Mountaineers, who wouldn't want to know that their team is doing everything they can to win?

Mountaineers clinch playoff spot, defeats Manila All-Stars 115-112


Vulcan Arena, Fairview -- With a late push, the Cresta Verde Mountaineers was able to sneak-in and set-up a one-and-done matchup against #1 seed Kurizo Hoopers in Season 26's playoffs.

Last week, they were up against each other and the Hoopers dealt them a 101-84 beating.

Frederick Rosales led the Hoopers with 38 points to counter Renald Geonanga's monster game with 38 points and 19 rebounds.

The difference however was that all five starters for Hoopers scored in double figures complimented by Toufic Benhoussa with 22 points. Moises Mora had 15 points and 11 rebounds while Giedris Sebeziovas had 10 points and 19 boards.

The Mountaineers had more rebounds (+3), assists (+8) but only made 1-17 from beyond compared to Hoopers 9-27 treys that is the ultimate difference in a steady flow of game.


With just a point differential separating the two, Cresta Verde Mountaineers is trying to fend-off Zennings for that fourth and final playoff spot.

The odds were against the Mountaineers as they face formidable Manila All-Stars, albeit the last and to be relegated team, while Zennings faced Miscellaneous but with two injured star players.

Everybody is looking closely at this matchup as it's the closest battle for fourth in awhile.

In the first quarter, the Mountaineers were trailing 29-28 against All-Stars. Zennings were on their way to a rout with a 28-15 scoring in the opening salvo.

The Mountaineers up the ante in the second scoring 36 to 26 leading 66-54 at the half. Zennings meanwhile 'shutdown' Miscellaneous with just 7 points output leading 48-22 at the break.

Mountaineers scored a point more (21-20) in the third leading by 10 entering the fourth. Although the All-Stars made a furious rally scoring 37 points compared to the Mountaineers 30 in the final quarter, the Mountaineers end of victorious 115-112 away from home.

The guards made sure to win this one as Teodosio Amante poured in 38 points while Marion Pacete had 31 points with 9 assists.

Charlie Contreras led the All-Stars with 30 points and 10 rebounds while Giordano Zarattini scored 25.

It was a high-scoring affair with almost identical statistics but the Mountaineers had 6 more three point field goals than the All-Stars.

Zennings was determined to grab the fourth seed as they played all-out to destroy Miscellaneous and ended up with a -13 PD but Mountaineers still managed to have -5 to advance in the playoffs.

"I guess we're still a formidable team, we are happy to advance and hopefully make some noise!" GM Nicolo Maro exclaimed.

The Mountaineers will face #1 seed Kurizo Hoopers - they're 0-4 against this team with an average of 15 point differential. The spread is set at -9.5 for the Hoopers.
