Constantly losing games by a large margin, even if it doesn't mean you are a tanker, should still mean that your attendance drops. Think about it.. Why would fans come to see your game if you get smashed every time? Well, more accurately, would you even have many fans?

>Tanking is a form of basketball team management, though.

Not when forfeits, television agreements and gate revenues are involved.

As a game strategy yes, but again, it goes against the concept of fair play.

Yes, tanking in real life does happen sometimes. An example from a different sport: Last year Bruce Arena fielded a joke lineup for the LA Galaxy in a late stage of the US Open Cup. He didn't make a concerted effort to win, because he wanted his best players to be available for the next league game.

That, I and I don't think any fans of the Galaxy would have a major problem with. Some were disappointed, but, at the same time, the Galaxy carries a roster of dozens of players who are reserves and that is the scenario where they get their PT (similar to the scrimmages in this game).

So, even though they didn't make an effort to win the game, they were still developing the team beyond their first team. They also were fielding a full team in both league and reserve (Cup) games.

So, from that point of view, no, tanking is not a real-life strategy. The tanking we are talking about here I am pretty sure is not what some might reasonably consider prioritization of development and resources.

Its possible to win Games even when you tank a season ..

Last week I bought a player with whom my team is over the salary cap (I'm paying 294k salary - no other Team here has less than 595k salary) and yet I won 5 Games (the first 3 I only had to pay the Salary Floor and in the fifth my SF was Injured after 3 minutes)

Im 6th with only one point difference from being fifth - why should my Fans suddenly stop coming even tough I win games
Last season when I had a normal Team I only won one more Game ... and we had one Team tanking (and two started tanking after the ASG)

IMO your attendence should drop if you field less than 5 Players at game start and less impact of the last game for attendence would be good too (it should depend more on this years record)

to me that's not really tanking. I call it "Minor Tanking" which I bet 60% of teams do in BB. Well, to me there are types of tanking lie this:

.Hardcore Tanking: Tank to relegate, get a great draft pick, gain serious cash.

.Tank to Draft: You tank and tank, get a good drraft pick, but end up in 7th. No problem, just get 2 100+k monsters to stay in the league.

.Minor Tanking: Tank a few games you want in a given season, but stay high enough to get to the playoffs or get to 5th

Now, I plan to do Tanking #3 when I promote, to gain up the cash, but stay above water in standings enough to get 5th and hopefully a good draft pick. So what your doing doesn't bother me, what does is that team intentially put less than 5 players or fill their roster with crap players to stay above floor. And they forfeit and get all the cash they want to win in the next seasons.......

I planned to tank to draft 1st - 300k in a First League is nothing ;) as I said, any other team here has more than double my teams salary (and until one Week ago I wasn't above the floor)
