It was always between top ups and the bears. They have the best win/loss by a long way (bears would have been better if they didn't tank games for the cup) for a reason. Top ups got caught trying to lock it up by playing normal effort (which I would have done myself). Bears would be at unbackable odds right now.

For me personally I was rapt just to make finals because it meant I avoided the 2-3 YoYo I did for ages last time I got to this level, so I'm not expecting to go a lot further from here.

Sadly, you were never in the running because you had so much salary tied up into one player. You'll never pay 200k a week for one player and put a competitive team around him in div2.

Hey mate, no argument. When I picked that guy up at 19 I basically have been training him as an NT player ever since. I'm happy to just be on my way to back to back Div 2 seasons. Which, when you think about it, probably makes my side a little competitive in Div 2, yeah? By definition, even if the comp is weak as you say, I've been able to compete enough to stay here, therefore, competitive?

Hey, noticed it was your first div 2 playoff win- same here! Come tomorrow one of us will have 2 wins, so that's something. Good luck, I guess whoever gets through will be the underdog, but gotta be in it to win it an all that

Best of luck to you mate. Your lads seem to have hit good game shape at the right time, so I think between that and home court you’ll get the job done, but I’m hoping to make a fight of it. The game shape just seems random. I thought I balanced the minutes of my starting 5 really well last week - they all drop in game shape and dmi. What the hell is with that? But yeah, I think which ever of us gets through will find it tough in the finals series. Still, the road to playoffs has been entertaining on our side of the draw at least.

By competitive, I mean compete for a championship. So no, I wouldn't say your team is competitive with a 13 win season. That said, if you got what you wanted out of the season, good for you.

For perspective, I won 15 games last year and spent only one week above the salary floor. I made the same goal as you (to stay in div2), but my priority was to make as much money as possible. I was earning between $220-250k every week while having more wins than you with a harder draw. Was I competitive? No. Did I accomplish what I set out to achieve? Sure.

If an NT player is your priority, then you have a gun player to show for it. I'm merely telling you that you won't compete for a div2 title with over half your salary tied up in one position.

That’s impressive - quarter mil profit a week! How did you not buy your way to a title off the back of that, particularly given the competition is clearly weaker this season? I also lose too much cash in trainers due to the NT focus, which makes it tough to win the whole thing. I just guess it depends how you measure competitiveness. Last time I played up here I was lucky to win half a dozen games and got smashed in the relegation games, so from my perspective this time around I’ve been able to hold my own - or compete - where as last time I was little more than bot challenge to the other sides.

Yeah I measure success by winning an ABBL title. That's why I'm focused on building up the bank and getting the next generation of trainees.

How did you not buy your way to a title off the back of that, particularly given the competition is clearly weaker this season?

It all comes down to my ultimate goal. I could have promoted every season since I've been back, but I'd also spend everything I have to just stay afloat in the ABBL. Until I have 3 trainees who are almost at ABBL level, winning anything is an expense that makes my team further away from where I'm trying to get to. There is no value in being middle of the road and making no money in this game. All that happens is your players lose value over time and you have to start from scratch without actually accomplishing anything.

Fair enough, each to their own I guess. But having floated around Div 3 for the majority of my time in this game, and a few very quiet leagues at that, I'm just glad to be in a level that actually has all active players and no bots. We can't all win ABBL titles. If you ever do get one of those trainees you are talking about hopefully he finds his way into our NT team.

Good luck to you with your mission, mate.

Credit to you, you did make ABBL playoffs a few seasons back and stayed there for a 3-season run, so you're streets ahead of me in terms of holding your own in this game. But if the pass mark is winning an ABBL title in terms of being competitive, I guess we're equally competitive? Unless you're running a second account somewhere. I mean, there's only been 17 teams win it in 50 seasons so far. They're damn hard to win.

I'm hoping to get at least two more seasons out of Hongjing as the starting PG in the National Team and then if someone wants him or he doesn't fit in with how I'm training my next batch I'll move him on. I just need to stay around this level to afford that, not necessarily win it.

Out of interest, what do you make of the estimates the game gives you for the price of a player on the transfer list. One of my trainees is currently being estimated at $9.7 mil, which just seems ridiculous. Do players ever sell for that much?
What's the most you've ever sold a player for or bought a player for?

thats how it was until i sold players and Trolololo bought players. Top ups and Trolololo was the GF imo, but you never know what can happen.
